A common complaint for this model is that the beads stop changing color after awhile.
Someone took it apart and noticed that the beads in the window, that show the color change, had become burnt which is why they stopped changing color. The beads within the unit were dry after recharging but you couldn't tell because the ones in the window lost their ability to change color. The unit had done it's job and dried out the beads after recharging but you couldn't tell. He just replaced the beads in the window with beads from within the body, which were dry, and then the unit indicated when the beads were dry again.
What likely happens is that the beads in the window get too hot from one long heating cycle. A possible fix is to dry the beads in stages, that is, plug the unit in for half the time then let the unit cool down for awhile, say an hour or so then plug it in for the rest of the heating cycle. Bothersome, yes, but not too much if a timer is used.

Let me guess, your windows 'sweat' in winter....
FWIW, I have several of these, they are awesome in my gun metal cabinets (not even sealed "safes") and I also keep one in each car's truck. The ones in the cars need recharging once a month but the ones in the gun cabinets only need recharging once or twice a year. The indicator stops working if they get way too 'wet' and stay that way...like far more 'wet' than normal use. Again, suggesting you are not addressing the actual humidity problem, just trying to throw a band aid on it.
P.S. These are this price often at LIDL.
I keep one in a zip lock and toss my phone in there when its raining.
It will not suck up moisture in a large room. It will but it does not have the capacity for large amounts of moisture without a recharge. Small enclosed spaces work best.

I use them in the safe, and keeping filament, and guns and ammo dry.
