All varieties of batteries qualify for this deal, not just the ones posted here.
Limit $40 Rewards points back.

*Reward points will be paid to the highest full dollar amount. Anything over is rounded down.

This deal would net you $36 worth of rewards points. Rewards points do not expire.

You should not pay with rewards points, because rewards are earned only for your out-of-pocket spending before tax and after all discounts. In other words, Rewards points do not roll.

Offer good online or in-store.

If purchasing in-store, they do price matching.

This would reduce your out-of-pocket spending, your taxes, and the rewards you earn. So it would reduce what you need to spend later as well.

I keep seeing these deals but can we roll these points? I almost never need anything from staples. How easy is it to redeem these rewards.

Can't use points to get points. Must actually make a payment. I used them to get apple products (and price match).

Thanks for clarifying. I guess I don't want to tie myself up in their rewards in this case.

I addressed this exact issue in the OP. Please read it completely. "Out-of pocket" means the money you pay. So, not points.

Of interest, Staples gift cards used towards payment do count for earning rewards.

Again:
No, you cannot roll points. Your rewards will only be paid on your out-of-pocket spending, not including taxes, coupons, discounts, shipping (if any), and rounded down to the highest whole dollar amount.
i.e. if you paid $36.99 for these (shame on you for not price matching if you did this in the store), you would receive $36 worth of points back. You do not get any taxes paid back.

If you do use price-matching, you will have less invested, and less taxes paid, and will get less back in Rewards points that you have to spend at Staples later. So that is up to you.
