This Midea 12,000 BTU smart inverter window air conditioner is praised for strong cooling, quiet operation, and efficient power use, with smart app energy tracking on some units. Installation is usually described as manageable, though the unit is heavy and may take two people, and it works well for bedrooms and other single rooms. The main cautions are the earlier mold recall history, occasional drain plug and energy reporting quirks, and possible breaker trips on crowded circuits. It is a solid fit when you want window AC performance without portable AC noise.

  • People needing unobstructed window access or a low-profile install, because this design still blocks part of the window and can interfere with blinds or guards.

  • Owners with heavily loaded electrical circuits, because the 12,000 BTU unit can draw enough power to trip a breaker.

  • People who need reliable app-based energy monitoring, because the feature can be missing or show as not supported even after firmware updates.

  • Shoppers who want easy long-term cleaning, because the blower fan can become nearly impossible to clean after a while.

Do these need a special outlet or will any standard one work? We have one AC in our apartment in the living room and it does not cool our bedrooms, interested in getting one for my room.
It works on a regular outlet.

Bought it last week before discount, just got $100 refund, well worth the original in store 399 price. It's quite and easily cools 300sqft room with vaulted ceilings, easy install.

Couple things to note.
Check with your electric Co. In CA under DWP this qualifies for rebate at LA cool website.

Also, this kept tripping my circuit breaker that has a couple other low voltage things on it. Asked ai and it suggested replacing the 20 year old AFCI breaker, as the older AFCI breakers can have an issue with many new appliances creating electrical noise that newer breakers have resolved. That did the trick, been working flawless for a week now on new circuit breaker.
Also, instructions are not clear. Be sure to replace the blue plug on bottom corner with the black plugs supplied. This is the fix different than the older model's having mold issues. The black plugs let the water drain out slowly.

Can you confirm if the arms need to be screwed in? I don't see the manual mentioning it, but the videos show it.

It's to required, no. Its only really if it's attached to a siding that's uneven.

Agree, the booklet says $299.99

https://daily.slickdeals.net/shopping/costco-coupon-book/#section-1
That also has an asterisk at the bottom of the page saying Online prices may be higher.

Thanks for answering. To clarify I was asking about the bracket arms inside, attaching to the side of window trim. Not the outside arms.

Got it. It's installed "inside" the window frame. Most of the weight is taken with the outside feet as the back is heavier than the front. It's braced against the window sill internally with the horizontal bracket. You should screw down through that bracket into the window plastic or into the window sill on the inside.
The stabilizing arms also screw into the sides of the walls. But honestly I don't think screwing into the sides really anchors that much - the screws are small. I think it's more supportive than structural, if you see what I mean.

  1. These are the best window A/C units I've ever owned.
  2. The company stood behind the recall and either did repairs or sent checks that covered more than the cost of new.
  3. In warehouse they're selling for $299 around us. They were originally $399.

Do you leave the unit in the window during the winter? Just curious if it's easy to remove and install every year.

How mich does this cost to run monthly? California already changes and arm and a leg for electricity.
I need a portable ac with a vertical outlet for the window.
This is such a stupid question.

If I run it to cool a 2000 sq ft house in FL (DOABLE BTW)
vs
you in a 800 sq ft apt.

We have this exact unit and it was updated after mold recall so don't let that deter you. It's super cheap to run, on par with a mini split.

this is a great A/C

there is only one problem and it's huge after awhile

the blower fan is nearly impossible to clean
What makes it harder than other A/C units?

Not recommended to reinstall every year. This design still enables you to open your window but with just obstruction of the AC. If you need the window with no obstruction from the bottom, you can look into other options such as the upside down u, "n" shape air conditioners or ACs installed at the top.
