there is only one problem and it's huge after awhile
the blower fan is nearly impossible to clean
I don't keep the AC in the bedroom window all year, so the process of install and pulling it is important. While both are somewhat heavy, the Midea one always felt like it would flex and collapse on itself when lifting it out of the window. The HiSense feels much more compact and rigid. I haven't checked, but it also seems smaller/lighter. My wife is really sensitive to light in the room when we sleep, and one challenge with the Midea one is that in order for the room blind to black out the room, it would have to slide behind the room side of the AC unit (in between the ac and the window). For the HiSense, this is not an issue since the blinds can come down to the top of the room side of the unit, and then the sides are blocked out with the included foam. We use a roller shade, so it was thin enough to fit between the AC and window on the Midea, but if we had other options like mini-blinds or slats, we would have had a lot of light in the room with the Midea.
Since we mostly keep the blinds down in our room, the other benefit of the HiSense is aesthetic - there is only a small footprint on the room side of the AC unit.
Again, this is not to say there is anything wrong with the Midea as long as they've fixed the mold. It was really great as well. In terms of function, they both seem to be pretty equal. The HiSense ones had several sales last year through Costco. As it is getting hotter, I wouldn't wait to get one, but if you get one Costco, be sure to watch out for a drop in price in the 30 days after since they will honor the price adjustment as long as you request during the time it is on sale and within 30 days of purchase.

I'm using it to cool my master bedroom which isn't that big so high BTU isn't a concern for me. I was planning on picking up the Hisense since its more compact so the window doesn't have to be open as much and I can get more sunlight in. However, it is $20 more and it has less BTU than the Midea (8000 vs 12000) but that doesn't bother me.
My concern is that this Midea model has the same exact model number that was part of the huge recall last year. Someone mentioned here that the drain plug has been updated but does anyone know if that truly resolved the issue?
The refurb ones, like the one I have, just included the new plugs to install myself.
It's just a little rubber plug that has to be replaced every month or so. You can check youtube if you want to see what they look like.
I need a portable ac with a vertical outlet for the window.

FWIW, a toaster, blower dryer, and microwave are all high wattage devices. A toaster and microwave running simultaneously on the same circuit in a modern home will probably trip the breaker.

Hard to know without knowing the 8K units draw. Like if it's older or not an inverter unit then the 12k may pull similar wattage.
From looking online it seems like when the room is to temp, this should only pull 2-600 watts of electricity (your microwave is probably 1500-1800), instead of it's max of about 1200 watts. However if the room is hot or it isn't keeping up, it would possibly pull up to 1200 watts.
