can't comment on this one but with most of these you gotta get a good intense fire going for the secondary burn to kick in. my guess is those folks didn't burn enough stuff to activate the second burn. the hotter the fire the more air flows for the secondary burn holes.

Smokeless, but still not legal to use in high fire danger camping areas..

We use one that looks identical to this in our backyard. Works great. Have had it for about 3 years now. Going strong. I honestly don't understand the appeal of the higher end smokeless pits when these do the same thing for way way less.

Reviews say the smokeless feature doesn't work as advertised. Can anyone chime in on that?

how much heat is this putting out, seems like 18" is for a personal space/setting, not like 6+ people around a fire

Reviews say the 20" one only measured 17.5", so this being advertised as 18" may mean it's much smaller or the reviewers were sent the 18' version instead of the 20" one.

doesn't have the same kind of secondary burn as a solopit. that said, the design should still mostly be smokeless at higher burn temps, but you won't get that jet-like secondary burn

I have several early design solo and solo like fire pits that I have used over the years, but none are what I call portable for burning "larger" logs, not just pellets. Now, some reviews note that this fire pit burns "shorter" logs, and I will accept that as a tradeoff for portability.

How smokeless is a "smokeless" fire pit? I'd like one, but we can always smell the smoke every time it's lit.

Nothing is truly smokeless, but when you get a typical solo stove up to temp, the burn is pretty clean and the draft from the pull of the air suction tends to take all the heat and the smoke straight up like a jet so you don't feel it even if you're next to it. It's good for cooking on but bad as a bonfire
