These are nice combos. Most of them from Light up to Medium Heavy are all about $28 to $35. You might not get much use in May, but a decent deal to stash away for next season.

I've never ice fished on salt water, but suppose it's possible.

I don't think these would cast very well as they are made for ice fishing.

These have been on sale a lot since end of ice season, I got one in medium action and it seems pretty good quality to me. I got a shorter version though.

Just a couple days ago I was researching fishing poles for kids and the Ugly Stik was constantly recommended, specifically the ~5ft versions. Any reason why these shorter poles can't be used for summertime fishing for kids?
Edit: my kids are also interested in trying ice fishing next winter. So could I just use these for both seasons?

The guides on an ice fishing rod are much smaller than a regular rod (at least the ones closest to the reel) because their not made for casting, just reeling up/down.
It may work, but it also may lead to short or tangled casts which could frustrate the kid.

as someone already mentioned these are not made to cast out and will lead to tangles. If you're going to be just dropping off the side of a pier or a boat it should be fine especially since you mentioned doing ice fishing later in the winter.
I got my kid Daiwa X2 Samurai (from Dicks) last summer as they go on sale often. It works well and not too worried about them accidentally breaking the tip or something else.
