I've always been confused why that is.

It has been this price on steam 14 times before and will probably continue to be this price every time it goes on sale, so if you aren't ready to play it immediately you can probably wait to buy, it'll be this price again in the near future.

Great voice acting, great story, great cinematics, great attention to detail, very bad gameplay and a stupid horse. I played this game for a month, and I ended actively watching the near wall more times than I dare to confess under duress. Don't waste your money. The first game was a video-game. This one is more like just a video, or one of those movies, when the book is much better.

Just to clarify before I buy. There's no Steam Cloud saves, but the rockstar launcher handles the cloud saves?

One of the best story lines in all of gaming. The gameplay is a little wonky, particularly riding horses and carriages, but the story is so good you probably won't care.

I take it the chances of getting a third game in the series is slim since we are still waiting on gta6?

I can understand how it's not to everyone's taste, but I loved it. Took me a bit to get into it, and yes, it's slower paced, but very immersive. I think that it feels more an epic novel where you're the main character.

Incidentally, I'm playing RDR1 now, and it's still a great game in its own right, but feels dated in comparison.

Bud, Red Dead 2 is one of the greatest games ever, not just my opinion. "Very Bad Gameplay" I think just means it's not your thing. The gameplay is quite good. Maybe give us an example of what you consider good gameplay, just so we know where you're coming from (this should be good 😅)

It was maybe my fault, because I played RDR2 right after AC Mirage. I couldn't believe that a camel was smarter and more versatile than a horse.
And there's the unexpecting RDR2 slow walking when getting closer to a objective, and all the invisible walls, where the main character falls down, or trying to steer the horse away, and ending hitting a rock, a tree, a pedestrian, or another rider... Or the weapon selection getting reset when getting off a horse, and forcing a weapon layout during some quest (no rifles), and the senseless save game algorithm, that sends you unexpected places (even inside buildings), that also happens when setting up camp. And there's the Autosave conflict while saving the game and quitting, that stops from continuing later without a warning message asking to overwrite the Autosaved session, or to continue without Autosave, without any other option, like quitting to the Main Menu.
I followed the main story line, and ended the game, with rolling credits and everything, and still says 80 some percent done, so I am guessing I did not finish the storyline. But this amount increases very time I find some items, or kill a crowned animal, or buy an special item; so, basically, the main storyline is filled with side tasks.
I took a break to play something else, I can't see myself going back to this boring RDR2. I even tried to make a list of all the RDR2 gameplay failures, and it got boring as well. I rather play something that feels more like an actual game, than this. I would like to have the option to watch a movie when I want to watch a movie, and not when I want to play a game.
The cherry on top is that I bought the Epic version. Starting the game from the Rockstar client launches the Epic client, and then the game. But starting the game from the Epic client resets my Rockstar log in credentials, and automatically signs me out from Rockstar (both account are linked, and there's no other way). It's fun until one has to do it 10 times. Creating a Windows "Pin to Taskbar" doesn't work neither, giving the message that I don't own the game from the Rockstar client, while it shows that I own the game in the background. Sorry for all the tears. They are tears of joy, of course.

I played RDR1 long time ago. I rented it from Blockbuster when it came out, and it was much different than everything else out there, but highly enjoyable. RDR2 still different. The voice acting and the story are fantastic.
