Harman Kardon Go + Play is a portable Bluetooth speaker aimed at big, room filling sound, with stereo drivers that give it more depth than typical mono speakers. The sound gets praised for strong bass, clear mids, and enough volume for parties, offices, showers, and outdoor use, while Bluetooth calling also gets a nod for meetings. The main tradeoff is size and value, since it is a bit large for smaller spaces and the newer Go + Play 3 is repeatedly described as better sounding, though usually much pricier. A solid pick if you want premium sound without chasing the newer model.
Common Questions (5)
The Go + Play 3 is the stronger model, with more power, newer Bluetooth, deeper bass, and a more home-focused sound. The older Go + Play is lighter and can be the better value if you want the classic design and solid room-filling audio.
It delivers big sound for its size and works well outdoors, but it is a little large for smaller spaces. It is better suited to room-filling listening, showers, or patio use than to compact desks or tight rooms.
At around this sale price, it is considered a fair buy for a limited-function speaker with strong sound. The high retail price is not a good benchmark, since these speakers are often discounted heavily.
Yes. It can handle Bluetooth calls well enough for conference calls and meetings, making it useful as an office speaker as well as for music.
Older Harman Kardon Bluetooth speakers in this line reportedly have easily replaceable batteries. That makes them more serviceable over time than sealed-battery speakers.

The Go + Play 3 is the better pick if you want stronger bass, more power, newer Bluetooth, and a more home-focused sound, while the older Go + Play is lighter and may be the better value if you just want the classic design and solid room-filling audio.
Main differences
The older Go + Play uses two 90 mm woofers and two 20 mm tweeters with 4 x 25W rated power in AC mode, while the Go + Play 3 uses a 3-way layout with two 70 mm midrange drivers, two 20 mm tweeters, one 130 mm subwoofer, and 160W RMS output. The Go + Play 3 also reaches a slightly deeper rated low end at 43 Hz versus 50 Hz on the older model, which supports the idea that it is tuned for fuller bass.
Portability
Both speakers are rated for up to 8 hours of playback and both recharge in about 3 hours. The older Go + Play is noticeably lighter at 3.433 kg versus 4.7 kg for the Go + Play 3, so it is easier to move around despite both being marketed as portable home speakers.
Connectivity
The older Go + Play uses Bluetooth 4.1 and can connect up to 3 smart devices at the same time, while the Go + Play 3 uses newer Bluetooth 5.2. The Go + Play 3 includes a 3.5 mm input and USB-C charging output, and the older model includes USB charging output plus speaker pairing through Harman Kardon Wireless Dual Sound.
Sound and design
A 2023 review found the Go + Play 3 delivers "flawless" sound with strong bass and accurate mids, and noted that its driver system is more advanced than the predecessor's. That same review also says the Go + Play 3 is heavier and lacks extras like Wi‑Fi, an app, and an IP rating, so it fits better as a premium indoor speaker than a grab-and-go outdoor one.
