Finally found the holy grail 48 GB config - this is lower than the sale price at MicroCenter (silver only, not in stock most locations) and lower than the discount on some models at Amazon (though they have no discount on this config). Looks like there are some other configs available (18-core CPU) with the same $300 off MSRP. Seems to only apply to Space Black at the time of writing.

I have the m4 pro version with exact specs and it was a massive* upgrade from my M1 Pro 16gb. I can run some nice local models, and this one is even faster with the m5 pro. I think it's great if you need a laptop and want to get into local llms for a 'reasonable' price
