IMO $1100 retail is crazy. $550 for a new unit is a pretty good price but I'd suggest looking for a used 6" jointer which can usually be found for way less than $550. They are fairly simple machines and as long as the beds are coplanar, not pitted from rust, and the motor works they're generally fine.

Even if pitted from rust, it won't affect the tool and the functionality of their use as long as they're collateral and have a decent motor like you suggested.

A cast iron tool with rust/pitting often means I'm going to be able to talk their price down.
