I've been waiting on this deal. Great tool for post hole digging, gardening, trenching (if you're tired of having a healthy back). Factory refurbished, but register in the Ryobi app and you SHOULD still get your warranty. The new price tag on this is around $459.

This would still be a good deal for those looking for an ice auger. Amazon sells bits for cheap if you look filter by "Conditions" and find some Used-Like New products. Also, currently Ollie's discount stores have HART products on sale with the earth/ice auger bits (8") for $29.99 .

The RYOBI 40-Volt HP Auger gives you the power and versatility you need with the convenience of battery power. Simply insert the 40-Volt battery and pull the trigger to start. The premium HP brushless motor provides more power, longer runtime, and a longer motor life. This Auger has 30% more torque than the average gas unit. Equipped with Advanced technology it is lighter weight with reduced vibration for increased comfort as you work, and the Anti-kickback system provides added safety when working around rocks and roots. This auger features forward and reverse functions, along with 2 speeds so you can choose the best speed for the job. It's ideal for light cultivation, preparing soil, and digging for fences and landscaping.

I've said it in several threads for years about DTO and "factory reconditioned" Twice I've tried them and both times were broken tools that were mailed in for repair and shipped right to me. A weed trimmer/edger covered in grass and the string head broken and a brad nailer that didn't work at all. Both boxes had the previous persons shipping label on them as well. They just slapped a new shipping label for me and sent me the broken items. Their factory blemished is excellent and I've never found the blemishes, but the factory refurbished has never been refurbished in my experience.

Interesting, I received a refurb ryobi fan yesterday and it looks brand new.

I'm sorry to hear about those experiences; it sucks to need something and it show up broken.

As far as my experiences lately I have ordered about 6 tools in the last month that are "Factory Reconditioned" from them and they've all been what I would consider "Blemished". Experiences vary quite a bit as with most refurbished products. It's always a risk IMO.

Hopefully your next one turns out to be a better pick if you ever go that route.

My frugality controls these kinds of risks/decisions!

Just wanted to add my experience... I've spent over $1000 five years ago on various refurb Ryobi 40v outdoor tools and batteries (and 5y ago it could get you twice more tools than now)... Everything was shipped clean and working (the shipping boxes lacked foam padding though so maybe I got lucky) and nothing broke to this day 5 years later and all original batteries are still going strong

same story for my indoor Ridgid 18v and corded tools, all of them are from dto and almost all are refurbs, only positive experience
