This is actually helpful to me because, while I appreciate the challenges and overcoming them, when the game gets way too hard it's just stressful. I play games to relieve stress not add on more stress

It's only challenging in the beginning. Once you level and get some decent skills/guns it becomes pretty easy.

Oh man, I loved this game. Was never a huge Dark Souls guy, but apparently adding guns to the formula is what makes it a winner in my book.
