I know others have had good experiences with this model but I've had to return it twice. First time it would act like it was on but completely stopped heating and the second time was a door issue where it wasn't engaging correctly unless inserted halfway in/halfway out perfectly.

Sorry about the bad luck. Good thing it's from Costco. No hassles exchanging or returning.

I've had two Gourmias and while they cooked fine (heavy usage), that stupid crisper tray flakes and becomes horrible to clean, even if you baby it with simple handwashing - went to Ninja 10 qt and have had zero issues with their trays.

Agreed. Covered with foil. Looking for one with a ceramic tray/interior.

I've used non-stick foil and I've used aluminum pie pans from take out places or from Costco. The crispiness will be reduced but saves cleanup. Just requires turning over for some foods. The wire mesh is not worth my effort to clean.

I use a combination of a silicone mat and paper liners (designed for air fryers) to minimize the gunk that accumulates on the fryer tray. No need to handle with kid gloves, just throw it in the dishwasher on a regular basis. An additional step which probably helped, I did season the tray (used flaxseed oil) when we first got the fryer. Just be sure to use an oil that can tolerate high heat -- such as flaxseed, avocado, or canola.

+1 for the silicone liners. I found ones on amazon that have raised nubs on them so you still get some air flow and the fat/grease has a place to drain to during cooking without dripping down into the basket.

Agree. This is the silicone liner I use that has raised nubs. Plus I use a paper liner underneath it to capture most of the fat/grease that seeps through the small holes.

Does this have that atrocious chemically plastic smell the first ~10 times you use it? Every other air fryer I have had has had this issue.

oh heh, I thought I had done something wrong since the last few times this deal has popped up nobody mentioned this. I've only had this a handful of months, only handwashed the crisper tray, and always made sure it was dry before use -- and it's lost a LOT of the coating. Personally I don't like the taste. Can't believe it's marked dishwasher safe if it can't hold up to light washing with a soft sponge. It's waiting on my counter to get returned.

I bought the Ninja Crispi last sale cycle and disliked it so much I've been using the Gourmia without the rack while I figure out what to replace the both of them with. It's not relevant to this deal and I know lots of folks love it but I think I hate everything about the Crispi lol

What did you hate about the Crispi? The ninja crispi has always intrigued me because the glass would eliminate the problem with the loss of coating that the Gourmia has. I had two different ones lose their coating quite quickly.
