I am writing to report a premature failure of this device. Despite light usage over only a few months, the unit has ceased to function. Based on my experience with Samsung and SanDisk products, which have provided reliable long-term service, I found this particular unit's lifespan disappointing and unexpected.

I have a history with these. I bought a couple of these November 2023 for $50 each to use in my Steam Deck and other devices, because they were quite a bit less than an equivalent Sandisk. Samsung had not yet been officially shipping 1TB MicroSD cards to the US, or I would have paid the premium. Eventually, I did.

The one in the Steam Deck worked fine until about 6 months in, when it started slowing down to absurd levels. Like 1-10mb read speeds, even slower writes. I thought, "maybe the file structure is just jacked up, and a reformat will resolve this?" Nope. A reformat took 5 minutes, and the speeds were still godawful. It didn't completely fail, but it might as well have. I swapped the 2nd working card into the Steam Deck and started using it, and sure enough, it too failed after 3 months.

I contacted support and they offered to replace them after confirming with the original Amazon invoices. I sent them the cards (paid 1-way shipping) and they sent me back 2 new cards a week or so later. Looking these things up on Reddit told almost the same story: If you write significant data to these and they heat up, they will fail. They get dangerously hot, enough to burn you. I believe what really killed these cards were writes / rewrites, like patches for games on Steam. I remember around the time the first card died, there was a significant patch that took over an hour to finish, and the card never recovered.

So be careful with these cards. If they get hot from extended writes, they WILL fail. I currently use mine in Android emulation handhelds to hold copies of roms that are mostly read and receive very few writes, and they work fine. If you're using them for an Android emulator handheld or Switch, they'll probably be fine. For the love of god, don't use these in a Steam Deck or handheld PC. The frequent patching kills these. I bought a Samsung Evo 1TB in October 2024 to replace these in my Steam Deck, and it's going strong to this day. The same for a Samsung Pro 1TB mSD I got 7 months ago. Those are rock solid cards you can trust. I'll never buy another TeamGroup card.

Team group is known for cutting corners on their products. There is a reason why they are cheap

I bought a micro SD of this brand years ago. It didn't last very long at all. Will never buy again.

Lifetime warranty won't help in recovering your data unfortunately

I have numerous Team Group USB flash drive and Micro SD cards of various sizes and models. At least half of them have experienced silent corruption. If that wasn't bad enough, they don't even throw I/O errors, they just return corrupt data (which may go unnoticed). I haven't seen any other brand be anywhere near this bad.

Agreed. I wouldn't put anything on these that you don't have backed up 3-2-1 elsewhere.

And it would suck if it dumped it contents (say from a camera etc) before one could.

Recently had a 256GB high endurance card fail after several months. It was in a doorbell cam. I have had Samsung High Endurance for years without failure. I submitted a warranty 2 weeks ago and have not heard back.

Ive had no issues with TeamGroup's microSD cards, specifically the "Go" line. I buy them in bulk for my business (nothing critical). Not sure about these "Pro" cards but probably fine for game systems and stuff like that. Better than the mystery brands!

It's compatible with Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and Nintendo Switch 1 (not 2).
How can an SD card be Switch 1 but not Switch 2 compatible?

Switch 2 requires cards that conform to the new microSD Express standard.
