Not that I've noticed. These seem to work better for us than the 2 layer mats that are a soft rubber material with a honeycomb as the top layer. Use the scoop away litter from Costco.

Have/had a couple of these, effective at catching/tracking litter — but boss'cat of the casa liked the mats as much as the litter'box... :-X

Cat owner for decades. Do yourself a favor and don't buy these and opt for the blackhole litter mats w/ the honeycomb design.

Never going back.

i use such mats strapped to the top of my window AC
so i don't hear units dripping down from above my unit.

the same mat has survived a dozen summers.
(i store my units indoors over the winter months)
