We had Ray-Ban Stories since the day they launched, the had the Gen 1 Meta smart glasses the day they launched. Both pairs of Gen 1's had the batteries die at exactly the 24-month mark. Was waiting for a sale to reluctantly buy the new ones but now I think we're gonna wait to see what Google And Samsung offer before getting new ones

Not necessarily. When you get discovered recording people in private settings and somebody knocks out a few of your teeth for you, you're gonna have to make sure you have separate dental coverage.
Since they are designing and pitching these to people with prescription glasses.... I guess all daily toilet and shower visits, gym locker rooms, sexual encounters, confidential business meetings and everything you read and view will be fair game for the entities behind Zuckerberg like Palantir. Anyone with a sense of ethics and/or privacy would need to carry around another pair of glasses and just use these sparingly for whatever they think they are useful for. Can't convince me the spy data from these won't end up in the huge data centers alongside your Ring and the Flock spy camera data. You'll be an OnlyFans participant without knowing so, and you're paying THEM for the privilege.
I have Gen 1 and they are ok. The primary purpose I use them is for audio/ calls and occasional photography + sunglasses, as I have the transitions with anti glare. As for some people's concern, you can't take pics or record videos discretely. You have to click or hold down the button in the frame for a photo or a video recording. And whenever you do this action, white led lights up in the front notifying people in front that you are recording them. So don't try & do that. I take pics of my dogs while walking em in the park or hiking. The part I don't like is that these run a bit tight at the nose resting area to a point that these become uncomfortable after 2 hours of wearing them. And the other things is poor battery. Even the newer Gen 2's battery is not that great.
