The only thing buying on Steam does is add the game to your steam library, so you go through 2 DRM instead of one. You still have to have Ubisoft Connect running if launching through Steam.

Lol. Steam has much better features, long-term reliability, input support config and remapping, social features, Linux/Steam Deck integration, better customer service... I'll take the extra second or two loading any day. Ubisoft is a scummy anticonsumer company and their launcher is garbage, as were its previous iterations. If I'm going with one of their games, it'll be through Steam infrastructure and support.

I had Battlefront II via the EA app and made the mistake of getting the Celebration Edition via Epic, which began to require Epic Games to be open every time I wanted to play BF2. I will never do that again. So annoying to have to have two launchers open just to play a game. It's not one second... more like 10+ seconds, in my experience.

Let's address this one statement at a time, in order.

10. This one's big, so I put moved it to the top: if you buy the game on Steam you still have to do everything with Ubisoft Connect.
1. Steam does have better features than Ubisoft Connect; almost no one uses most of them.
2. Ubisoft has been running their own game launcher since 2009, Steam was released in 2003. They are both close enough in age that no one would take issues with them dating.
3. Ubisoft games require controls be remapped in game, regardless of store purchased.
4. No one uses the social features of Steam or Ubisoft Connect; if you do it's because you already have friends using them.
5. Being on Steam does make it a little easier to install games on a Steam Deck, but since the deck allows you to install Ubisoft Connect it doesn't matter.
6. Both have fine customer service, for a digital platform. Ubisoft is a little slower to respond but are equally supportive.
7. Ubisoft is/was going bankrupt because they refused to fire their developers. The jerks.
8. The launcher is fine; and it does the launching of games without issue. It's actually easy use and allows game files to be altered, backed up, and updated with eased. It's easy to install mods on Ubisoft Games as well, partially if you want to run older Ubisoft Games on an Ultrawide or Super UltraWide.
9. It's weird to use your opinion of old software to justify not using a different newer piece of software.

Unfort already have most of these titles. Anyone want to wager how soon we'll see a discount on Black Flag remake ? I'm almost surely going to buy it but with how fast Ubisoft drops prices, its hard to willingly buy it at launch only to see it go on sale for like 40% off in 3 months....
