SK Tools used to be a great American brand but were sold to Hangzhou GreatStar Industrial several years ago.

This is an ok price but nothing that special. SK is one of a couple brands bought out by Great Star and put on average Chinese Tools.

IDEAL industries out of IL bought SK Tools through a bankruptcy sale in 2010. Moved all production to PA. Brand new facilities, all new stamping equipment. Then in 2021, SK was acquired by Hangzhou GreatStar Industrial.

Less than 15% is now made in USA. They moved production to China. Most of the USA stamps are gone from the hand tools.

I would not buy this. 12point for a ratcheting wrench is just plan stupid. The only way we have 12point is because of the fixed tools that may need better angle. On top of that, I would buy a swivel head on those. It don't matter that it is not American, there are superior in quality and cheaper wrenches out there made outside of the US. US has been service economy for the last 50 years, wake up people.

As a day job I need my 12 point ratcheting wrenches for 12 point fasteners with some frequency. I would be very irritated if I lost space in my already crowded box just to have 4 more sets of dedicated 6pt ratcheting wrenches when my 12pt do the job just fine. Nary a single one has rounded a bolt head in 15 years.

In general I would not use a ratcheting wrench for a real high torque application, so with that you really shouldn't be at that far end of the curve where a 12pt will slip but a 6 point won't with a ratcheting wrench

In the product pics, this mechanic is using one on a bolt instead of a socket wrench; Ron Swanson would be disappointed. Wrong tool for that job.

Does anyone have these and know how the quality is? I imagine it has gotten worse since moving to China but are they good enough for small engine stuff?

No, it isn't. Ratcheting wrenches are made for tight spaces. A 6 point would limit you.

That used to be the case when ratcheting wrenches first made their appearance. With advances in tool steel, it's not really an issue anymore.

Not really, you can just rotate the head by hand so it lines up with the fastener.

You've clearly never been up against a cramped situation where a wrench barely reaches, but a hand cannot.

Not if there is an obstruction preventing you from doing that...
