They have a widely reported failure point - the hinges. It's not if, but when that will break. It might be worth the risk with Costco, but personally I wouldn't. Bose or xm4/xm6 options are safer.

Isn't this the model with the infamous hinge problem? If so, it's a good thing Costco has a good return policy.

I've read about the Sony WH-1000XM5 hinge problem for years. Personally, I bought a refurbished Sony WH-1000XM5 on eBay from Secondipity for $195.06. They looked brand new when they arrived, and I've used them Monday through Saturday for about 4 hours a day.

I've also used them several times on long flights, and the noise cancellation is impeccable.

So far, I've had no issues with the sound, battery, or hinge. The noise cancellation is noticeably better than my WH-1000XM4. Also, Costco has a 90-day return policy on electronics.

I've seen the XM4 model on clearance recently at Walmart for $90-$120. YMMV. They are usually behind the counter locked up in the case.
