Refurb is still available for that price at eBay, but it comes with one 5000mAh Fast Power Bank, instead of two at Costco. It possibly doesn't cost $40, but it should be included in the comparison of "new vs. refurb, one power bank vs two, 30 day return vs lifetime, etc."

I have one of these and I wouldn't buy one especially if you plan to use it as a UPS and even more so for networking gear. I have one and it has been such a disappointment. You cannot update this and have the AC inverter running. So this means your networking gear will be shut off. This would be ok if it actually downloaded the update first before turning off the AC inverter. When I need to update this, I have to connect it to my cell phones hotspot and my entire network is down while it updates. Such a pain in the ass. The second major flaw if this device has to do with the LFP batteries and the device keeping its charge/discharge calibration curve. Over time (I am talking like 1 or 2 months) the device loses how much charge it has. Then when power is lost it will quickly run to zero (this like 2 minutes) and shut off. You then have to charge and discharge the device 3 times before the charge/discharge calibration curve is reset, then then it will last for 4 hours for the load I run on the device.
I really love EcoFlows software, but this device has been a giant disappointment for using it as a UPS especially for networking gear. Do not waste your money on this. I've wasted too much of my life dealing with Ecoflow support and having them screw me. I'd wait for the River 4 Plus and wait for some reviews first before I would buy anything from Ecoflow to use as a UPS.
I would cancel your order as fast as you can, just a heads up so that you don't have to deal with all the pain and suffer I did.

In for 1 for the primary use as a UPS for my Synology DS920+, Netgear CM3000 modem, and Netgear RS300 router. Total draw is roughly 60-80 watts so this will provide an estimated 3.5 - 4 hour runtime incase anyone is looking to do a similar UPS set up. Good peace of mind buying from Costco since it should also be exempt from the 90-day electronics return policy (classified as generator so basically lifetime). Also includes EcoFlow's 5 year warranty on the power station (2 years on the power banks).

I've not had the same experience with mine. I've only had 1 update in the 5mo I've had it. I don't recall it being an event and I have my primary PC that's always running attached to it. I'm on v1.33.81.60

Yeah I only updated it when I got it. I'm not interested in further updates. I'm not sure why he's having all those update issues. Why even have automatic updates on? I wouldn't.

I picked up one of the refurbs off ebay with 1 battery recently.

One thing I'll note is that when the powerbank is installed, it has a very high pitched whine. Not sure if it's mine or if this is always the case but for that reason, I wouldn't really put much value in it. I've got plenty of other powerbanks so the extra one or two that come with this isn't much of a benefit.

Now, brand new and costco return policy are good reasons to go with this price. May consider buying another one.

Beware of using this as a UPS! I was impressed at first, using as a UPS but there are serious issues with the unit cutting AC power and turning off my computer, NAS, switch, and other devices for seemingly no reason even with the latest firmware (and I was no where near overloading the 600 watt capacity). Also there is no advertised surge protection, so I bought a good surge protector and then plugged the EcoFlow into it. Also these units won't go to battery power if the input AC voltage gets too low or too high (or it will but the voltage limits are unsatisfactory (too low/high) for a computer UPS). And EcoFlow support told me (on 2026-03-12) "it is recommended to perform a full charge and discharge cycle once per month". I assume this is to maintain battery health and ensure the Battery Management System (BMS) remains accurately calibrated but there is no automated way to do this and no way to do it knowing that the AC outputs will stay on even if plugged into a wall outlet. EcoFlow support (on 2026-03-23) also told me to avoid using the device as a UPS during SOC (state of charge) calibration. This means every month you're suppose to stop using the device as a UPS, fully charge and discharge the battery, then charge it again and then you can use it as a UPS for another month until which time you have to do this all over again. Who wants to have a UPS like this especially if it is a UPS for devices that need to stay on or risk corruption?
Using the 'backup reserve' feature to manually discharge the batteries will likely cut your AC power off even when the unit is still plugged into the grid, as it has done multiple times for me even with the unit indicating the battery is still at 20% or over (and with less than a 300 watt load). Updating the firmware also shuts off AC power. Unexpectedly shutting off the AC power when plugged into the grid is not acceptable for a UPS. My CyberPower UPS units didn't have these issues. I'm not happy that this has still not been fixed and EcoFlow support has been no help. In my opinion, these River 3 Plus units are definitely not "pro-grade" or "premium" UPS units. If they were then they wouldn't shut off AC power unexpectedly and you wouldn't have to manually baby the unit every month by discharging and recharging manually. This becomes even more of an issue if you have multiple units because you have to manually manage each one.
Furthermore, according to AI, using an extra battery, like an EB300 or EB600, can increase the liklihood of unexpected AC power shutoffs "due to complex battery communication and handover logic".
The only reliable "solution" I have found to this is to use a normal lead acid battery UPS (like APC or CyberPower) plugged into the EcoFlow. I put my most critical devices on it (like computers and NAS) so they stay on when the EcoFlow fails to keep the AC power on. Other non-critical items that aren't such a big deal if they get powered off (i.e. smart devices, monitors, speakers, accessories) are not on the lead acid UPS and are directly connected to the EcoFlow AC output.

~$150 deal from eBay seems better. But if you really want to use the rechargeable battery it may be worth spending a bit more for this Costco version that comes with 2. Very annoying you can't replace these separately, but otherwise love this power station + the additional EB300 battery I picked up.

It does not and honestly was a big disappointment...

There are some ways around it if you want to go through terminal and adjust values etc, but plug and play doesn't work. Recently discovered this and was pretty bummed.

If Synology updates their version of NUT in the future after NUT updates their version it would fix it. They've got a GitHub post with that slated for the future, but who knows with that timeline.

It's a bummer, but the pi solution would work
