Verbatim DVD plus R Life Series blanks are being treated as a low cost option for archiving, backups, and burning movies or TV shows. The discs are described as holding up well over time, with examples of media still reading after nearly 18 to 23 years. The main drawback is that Life Series is the cheaper Verbatim line, not the premium AZO dye version, and these are not dual layer discs. That makes them a practical pick for basic storage when capacity and top tier media quality are not the priority.
People archiving files on optical media, because these discs can still read cleanly after more than two decades in storage.
Life Series DVD+R discs are described as the cheaper Verbatim line that is not AZO dye, so they may not match premium long-term reliability expectations.
They can hold data for many years, with one disc still reading fine after 23 years and another spindle stored since 2008 still intact. For archival use, DVD blanks are still limited by organic dye aging, so M-Disc or HTL Blu-ray is the safer long-term choice.
No, these are the cheaper Life Series discs rather than Verbatim's AZO line. They are still usable for everyday burning, but AZO/Taiyo Yuden discs were considered the higher-end option for long-term storage.
Burn movies and tv shows for people that don't have cable, internet or streaming services. I go through 200 dvd's a year. TV shows like Yellowstone or Vikings, etc. take a lot of discs.
Got binders and stacks of these filled with torrented anime from animesuki and tokyotosho. Tested one of them late last year, and it read no issues. 23 years later, not bad at all.
Though truth be told...CDR is probably more valuable than these now for mixing music. Fun fact...the 2025 Lexus IS was the last car with a built in CD player. The 2010 SC430 was the last car with a built in cassette deck.
My car's cd player has never had a cd in it [except for the annual map update, which we stopped getting years ago]. The slot is the perfect place for a magnetic phone mount. I never understood putting a phone directly in front of a vent.
+R are the best to use as they have very good error correction, not sure if these are the AZO dye version but that's the most reliable type to get for long term data storage
They were the last cars sold in the US with those respective things standard. Though, you could get the CD player in the 2025 wrx...as an option.
But yeah...that SC was the last of the last here with a cassette player. I drove a 2006 for a hot moment and having the wire dangle out from the cassette deck due to a lack of aux connector really added cachet to all of that burled wood

These DVD+R discs can read fine even after many years of storage, which supports using them for long-term backups.
DVD+R media can be a practical offline backup option for people who do not want to rely on cloud services.
DVD+R blanks are described as having very good error correction, which can help with long-term data storage.
DVD+R can work well for burning large amounts of TV and movies for offline viewing when streaming is unavailable.
Life Series DVD+R discs are described as the cheaper Verbatim line that is not AZO dye, so they may not match premium long-term reliability expectations.
Burning reliability can be inconsistent with recordable media, including past experiences where many discs were ruined during the burn process.
DVD+R blanks may still face long-term reliability limits because organic dye can deteriorate over time.
These discs are not dual-layer, so they are a poor fit for users who need more than single-layer capacity.

Dont these last longer for backups compared to most other options? Not everyone trust or wants to use a cloud service.
