Community Reviews

Verbatim DVD plus R Life Series blanks are being treated as a low cost option for archiving, backups, and burning movies or TV shows. The discs are described as holding up well over time, with examples of media still reading after nearly 18 to 23 years. The main drawback is that Life Series is the cheaper Verbatim line, not the premium AZO dye version, and these are not dual layer discs. That makes them a practical pick for basic storage when capacity and top tier media quality are not the priority.

Got binders and stacks of these filled with torrented anime from animesuki and tokyotosho. Tested one of them late last year, and it read no issues. 23 years later, not bad at all.

Though truth be told...CDR is probably more valuable than these now for mixing music. Fun fact...the 2025 Lexus IS was the last car with a built in CD player. The 2010 SC430 was the last car with a built in cassette deck.
Is this true for just Lexus or all car makes?

Probably for just Lexus? I know the 2026 Subaru WRX still has it.

What do you do with these? Frisbees?

Dont these last longer for backups compared to most other options? Not everyone trust or wants to use a cloud service.

Sun reflectors, Austin Powers joke reboot, coasters.

Sad actually that physical media like this will go to waste since it will outlast hard drives in many instances.

DVDs died before I was able to finish up my last stack of 100. I have a spindle of about 75 that has been on a shelf in my basement since the fall of 2008...so almost 18 years. I remember buying a portable 500GB WD hard drive that fall that set me free from the torture of burning CDs/DVDs!

Back when recordable CD's first came out, I would drive 250 miles to a Fry's store in the Bay Area to buy 10 discs for $100. That was quite a deal back then, but the technology was still new; so about every 7 of 10 discs would be ruined in the burning process. Anyway, I found that the ruined CD's were great for repelling birds from the fruit trees. I would drill a small hole in each disc, tie a fishing swivel through the hole and hang them on branches. DVD's work equally well for this.

M-Discs or HTL Blu-ray blank discs yes, DVD blanks no as the organic dye will eventually deteriorate. Unfortunately, Blu-ray writers are more difficult to get now that both manufacturers have discontinued them.
