Your link takes me to a 30 lb. tank. Wrong link or a typo in your description? Their 40lb. tank [autozone.com] is $194.

What does one do with an expired propane tank if it is larger than the blue rhino propane tanks? Those don't seem to last long and I worry I'll be stuck with an expire tank.

If you have a propane co-op within driving distance, see if they have refurbished tanks. They're about 1/2 price of a new tank.

You get it refilled at Tractor Supply or Menards (both are select locations only) or anyone that offers propane refills around you.

Tanks don't expire. Depending on the size of tank, they have different re-test date periods. If the tank isn't leaking and doesn't have obvious rust issues, most places will refill it without question.

I have six tanks I rotate, they all have dates a decade or two old. Never have a problem getting them filled.

PS. You should never exchange tanks, blue rhino doesn't fill them all the way, they got sued for this and now, at least in my state, they have big signs warning people they are 25% underfilled at all the exchange racks.

I think this maybe the correct link for the 30lb. I added it to my cart and the code words. https://www.autozone.com/p/flame-...30/1503754

Certification is 12 years from date on the tank. You can get it re-inspected to extend it for another 5 years. Some propane places will inspect them. I don't know if fire stations will do inspection.

As someone mentioned, you don't know what the expiration date is on these. I normally just get the 25lb and exchange it when date expires. Otherwise, I just get them refill. I did 2 exchange at the start of March. The exchanged tanks were date 1/2026, so good for 12 yrs and then re-certify for another 5 yrs. after that.

Just take it to a place that swaps them. Normally blue rhino or the like are very common. Additionally you can take it to a welding supply place that swaps them too. Thats what I do, its a few more dollars but the tanks tend to be in much better condition and don't have the plastic wrapper (they are also filled to 20lbs). Once you swap it its normally re-dated so you're good for the next 5-10 years to fill it.

I disagree, exchange the tank when its rusted and done for. Get one in much better condition, the 25% less fuel is much cheaper than a new tank.

I said if it's NOT rusted or leaking, of course if it's a hazard or dangerous exchange it, but not on a routine basis unless you like paying twice as much for your gas.

And don't let your tank sit out side every single day for a decade and it won't be rusted and done for.

There is a cheaper 30lb on HD for $75.18 (no coupon code). Why is this cheaper?

BTW Why can't I post links within SD. Was this feature removed?

I understand the explosion -legal reason but I think bring inside does solve a few issues - one is rust as discussed - the second is thermal expansion due to excessive heat. I at least leave my tanks in my garage.
