Do you need the antenna extension cable with this or is the two antenna's have different screw mounts? Always assumed they were universal.

It ships with a male SMA. Muzi whip uses male sma so you need to replace the one on the tracker with a female

Couldn't you just get something like this and not open up the case? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VL6OCE2
Also, is Muzi really that much better than some of the other ones that look very similar that do have a female SMA?

4 Heltec V3s and a Cardputer ADV with LoRa cap on my desk are telling me I don't need this. So, I don't need this. I don't need this? Do I need this? Maybe I need this.

What is the use case for this? Asset recovery, tracking vehicle / objects current whereabouts, reviewing a vehicle / objects current past location history? The page alludes to off grid messaging, can multiple users track each other and communicate off grid?

And yes, I've googled it, still confused Wink

Off grid communications mostly. Basically your cell phone connects to these nodes via Bluetooth. Meshtastic / Meshcore protocol uses these nodes to forward encrypted texted messages around. EVERYTHING runs through an app on your phone.

Oh crap, thats cool! I figured it was a standalone device but didn't understand how useful it was for comms since sending messages would have been very difficult with the lack of buttons. Running through a phone makes much more sense.

Thanks a million for the explainer.

P.S. So in theory in a grid down situation / or completely in the wilderness you could still communicate with others using these devices (or I assume running similar protocols) using a cell phone, no external network required? Or even in a modern day scenario where you need to communicate but didn't want to use established networks? (extreme example, you were in Ukraine and didn't want to use cell / wifi networks that Russia could easily monitor).

Good price but the coupon is expired.

"Sorry, the coupon code you entered is based on a first come first served basis and has been used up by other shoppers. Please enter a different coupon code or explore other discounts on AliExpress."

FWIW, MeshCore has been worlds better for me compared to MT.

Edit, NEVERMIND! Coupon changed and 'JJY5K' works for $5 off

Yep, that is exactly it. The different flavors (tastic vs core) just comes down to how the nodes send messages. Mestastic, much like your home router, broadcast the messages for ALL the nodes to forward your message until it gets to its destination. Core is more smart switching. It learns the different nodes over time and routes them through favorable paths. Core is supposed to be better for heavy traffic, but tastic is more widely adopted right now.

Awesome, thank you again. I'm definitely looking more into these!

it connects through bluetooth to your phone and the meshtastic or meshcore apps to type out messages the device is basically a radio to transmit. Meshtastic does allow you to send canned messages from the device itself
