This is a large 48V LiFePO4 battery that stands out for capacity per dollar and off grid backup use. The comments point to easy pairing with an inverter or hybrid inverter for whole home backup, solar charging, or running essentials, and some setups use it with a 240V inverter for EV charging. The main catches are that it is a DC battery, so it needs extra hardware like an inverter, transfer switch, or panel work, and the UL listing and inspection status are questioned. Efficiency and safety concerns also come up, especially around charging losses and fire or insurance implications.

But how do they ship it? Even UPS maxes out at 175lbs, I think.

How safe/reputable is this?

Any risk of ending up with metal-melting inferno like those e-cars that catch fire? That's helluva watts in this thing.

Some homeowner insurance policies will void the coverage for using non UL listed batteries and I was told this cannot be tied to the grid if not UL Listed
I do believe using non-UL listed battery is in violation of NEC code thus basis for insurance denial IF they can prove this unit either caused or made the fire/damage worse due to it. I don't think they can just flat out deny coverage for damage if the battery did not contribute/start nor added "fuel" to the fire or other damage (Like if you had roof leak causing damage, I don't think they can deny coverage just because you had these batteries as long as fire did not start though). That said, they can deny policy (or renewal) if you disclose that you have non-UL listed battery system in your home I would think.

ECO-WORTHY 5000W 48V Solar Inverter 100A MPPT Off-Grid Charger
You will probably want 10kw unit. Gas furnace shouldn't be an issue with 5kw unit, but AC is questionable since 5kw/240 = only 20A and most AC will probably be at minimum 30A. Check your AC breaker. If 20A, then yes, 5k should be ok, if 40A, then you will probably need 10kw inverter.

Just bought one for $1650+tax. Truck delivery took about 10 days door to door. I use it as a backup battery to "solar" charge my Jackery E2000v2 and Pecron F3000LFP with 2x EP3800 and noticed that judging by the BMS of each system that I needed about 5300 Wh to replenish about 2600 Wh on the power stations. Seems rather inefficient. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it on future uses. If it keeps being inefficient as a "solar" input, I may just get an inverter for this battery and use it as a stand alone power station.
if you're seeing this kind of efficiency loss, your next purchase should be a FLIR camera. that's basically enough power to cook a pizza in an toaster oven, and unless something is being measured wrong something REALLY inefficient is going on.

That's probably why the prices are going down. Government subsidized things always cost more. It's the same reason tuition keeps going up.
Not quite. I bought a pair of these batteries: https://www.ebay.com/itm/126715493848 Paid $780 each in December, they are $1000 now. Rackmounts Eco-Worthy are more expensive because they are UL listed.

Technology advancement, mass production! You're mixing apples and oranges to justify your way of thinking. It's made in China were 96% of batteries got made with insane speed and low cost using robotics, some factories don't even turn the light on while in full production. This deal is amazing, my main complain is limited to 200amp, and lack of parallel connection

If you get an inverter, you can create off grid zone. Best usage with pv charge for essentials. Better than a generator and cheaper

No, that's not how it works in a capitalist country. Anyone trying to tell you otherwise is a rich person wanting to pay even less than thier fair share of taxes.

Here's how it actually works in capitalist countries with government subsidies -

Three nearly identical things competing against each other:

Before subsidy:
$750, $1,000, $1,250

After subsidy:
$500, $750, $1,250

Aaannnnddd.... that's it!

Yep! That is really how it works. Because "competition" and "invisible hand"!

But most people start with, "I have $X dollars, what's the most I can get for it?"

So with a 30% subsidy a lot will bump up from the 16kw to the 24kw model. And some people that would have passed will buy the 16kw because now it's affordable.

WHICH IS THE POINT OF THE SUBSIDY.

But people trading up is not "got more expensive", it's "traded up". The cheaper model stayed the cheapest model.

Make sense?

Same with tuition.

You can argue whether using government subsidies to trade up to The Full College Experience makes sense rather than pocketing the savings, living at home, and going to a commuter university for 1/4th the cost. But when that commuter university costs $8k/yr (tuition, books, fees), it's a hard sell to claim that "subsidies made tuition more expensive". (Community college is even cheaper, and you can do AP and CLEP to get your first years credits knocked out for even less.)

Same thing with houses. Government subsidizes mortgage rates. Instead of pocketing the savings and buying the same size same neighborhood Modest Home, people nearly universally trade up to a Mc Mansion and/or a better neighborhood.

The issue isn't "subsidy". It's when trading up isn't the goal.

Oh, and you do know why prices keep dropping on lithium batteries, right?

China heavily subsidizes lithium battery production to ensure that non-Chinese companies can't compete. Which is why you don't have American companies as options for quite a lot of things. They couldn't compete against the lower cost of government subsidized imports.

I have this battery and a 240v inverter. I use it to charge my Tesla off grid. My inverter and this battery are inside my garage, but not connected to the grid / electrical panel at all. It just charges my Tesla which is exactly what I need it for.

You can easily hack EcoFlow to treat any old 48v battery as an extension battery
