I do recommend getting the stand if you can also afford that. You can also add weights to this as you progress vs being g stuck at the lower weights of many of the twist dials.
Community Reviews
PowerBlock EXP adjustable dumbbells are praised as a compact, durable alternative to twist dial sets, with a more natural curl position, quick weight changes, and easy expansion as strength increases. The stand gets strong support for keeping the weights off the floor, reducing bending, and making the setup feel more convenient over time. Main tradeoffs are the bulky cage, thicker rubber grips, and occasional awkwardness for curls or small hands. Compatibility for bars and some expansion kits is limited, so future add ons need checking.
Common Questions (5)
The stand mainly adds convenience by giving you a flat place to change weights and keeping the dumbbells off the floor. It also reduces bending and back strain with heavier sets, and several owners say it makes the setup much easier to live with long term.
Yes, the EXP can be expanded with later stages, and several comments warn that expansions may be harder to find if the line is discontinued. Buying the stages you expect to need up front avoids paying more or hunting for stock later.
The rectangular PowerBlock shape lets you hold the weights closer to your body for a more natural curl than twist-dial designs. It also lets you add expansion stages later instead of being stuck at the lower weight range of many dial systems.
The listed EXP set does not work with the barbell, kettlebell, or EZ-bar attachments, and PowerBlock does not make a clamp-on bar for this model. The compatible bar accessory appears to exist for the 90 EXP instead, not this deal's EXP version.
The Pro 50 uses knurled stainless grips and urethane-coated weights, which are quieter but bulkier. The EXP uses a rubber grip and uncoated metal weights, and the EXP can reportedly be upgraded with knurled grips later.

I will say, I've stopped taking the adder weights in and out, and just leave them in and only do 15,25,35,45,55,65 etc. weight reps. Thankfully, my lifting app (macrofactor workouts) allows me to specify what equipment/weights I have, so it reformulates with my gains without trying to bother me with the 10, 20, 30, etc. weight amounts. I just find taking the outerweights in and out is just a little too much extra work for me. I guess it's really not that bad, but my brain/drive needs as few obstacles as possible.
edit: also, I used first or second generation power blocks starting around 2013, and didn't have a proper stand until I upgraded to the EXP back around 2022, and I very much love having a proper stand.
also, I was able to sell my old school power blocks for more than I originally purchased them for, which leads me to believe these hold their value extremely well in the resale market. at least, if you take care of them as well as I do.

The powerblock website looks to have both an EZ curl bar and a straight bar that are compatible. I cannot find the length of the straight bar listed, but I doubt that it is wide enough for a rack or bench.
I always click through to these threads hoping that it is the ELITE USA that are being offered again so that I can pick up stage 3. I've been using mine for three years with no complaints.
Jokes aside they provide a flat specialized surface to change the weights that will probably not break any time soon. Is it worth it? Probably not if you have anything else to put them on that is sturdy and keeps them safe.

For those getting starting, get this, all 3 stages, and a bench off FB marketplace ($100-200) and you'll be set until you're ready to expand your home gym.
