PowerBlock EXP adjustable dumbbells are praised as a compact, durable alternative to twist dial sets, with a more natural curl position, quick weight changes, and easy expansion as strength increases. The stand gets strong support for keeping the weights off the floor, reducing bending, and making the setup feel more convenient over time. Main tradeoffs are the bulky cage, thicker rubber grips, and occasional awkwardness for curls or small hands. Compatibility for bars and some expansion kits is limited, so future add ons need checking.

What's the difference between this Woot deal (EXP) and the Pro 50 on the PowerBlock website advertising $549 for 50 lbs? I can't even seem to find this EXP version on the PowerBlock site.
The Pro I think is an "upgraded" version. It has knurled stainless steel grips, and urethane coated weights. Whereas the EXP has a rubber grip and uncoated metal weights.

Although for like $100, you can upgrade the EXP and replace the rubber grips with knurled grips. And the trade-off with the urethane coated weights is that they are quieter, but have a bigger footprint because of the coating. (same way like cast iron dumbbells versus rubber coated dumbbells).

I think the reason you don't see the EXP on the Powerblock website is that they are discontinued (or soon to be discontinued), and are clearing them out.

That said, this is a great deal. If you do buy these, then think about your future needs, and buy all the expansions you think you need now. Otherwise, in a year or two you are going to be saying to yourself, "why didn't I get the expansions while they had them in stock and they were cheap".

Should I get these or the Elite USA 90 EXP ones (from their website)? I have the trainer set now (love them), and they only go up to 50 lbs. Looking to increase the weight capacity. Thinking either this one or the USA 90 ones may be worth it.
Note that Powerblock doesn't make a bar that will clamp to these but they for the 90 EXP. I have these and love them but do wish I could find a bar that works with them.

anyone found a attachment that can turns these into barbell?
I have these and verified with Powerblock that they don't make a bar for these. I haven't found a universal bar that instilled confidence either. But I'm still holding onto hope.

It'll save your back a lot of stress, especially if you're picking up 50lb+ dumbbells. Personally, I just use steel garage shelving I bought off Amazon for $60.
Save your back stress? Look at it as a free deadlift!

I'm bummed having the Elite USA which never goes on sale anymore and just needing stage 3. Should have gotten it while it was on sale years ago, that's the last I've seen it.
I missed the last sale on the EXPs last time, so I bought them this go around. For the Elite USAs, are you at all annoyed by the "cage" of the two bars at the top? I feel like the EXPs are a good alternative, being that its a more "open cage"

No, it doesn't bug me. Felt odd maybe the first time I used them but after that I don't think about it at all anymore.

can't you get the twist dial weights closer to the body because it's only the handle in the way? for these types it's a giant rectangle box around your fist
Depends on the type. The older ones have a handle that doesn't get shorter with weight.

The newer twist dial ones do get shorter with less weight, but are often more fragile (don't drop em) and many of them are fantastically expensive.
Power blocks will work for the next 30 years. So, while I'd also personally want a set of Nuobells or something, I don't feel like paying 800+ for them.

I've heard good things about PowerBolock, is this the best one to start with and is this a good price?

You aren't missing out on much, they're kind of a flop because the bar will rotate and have weird weight distribution. I've seen a few reviews and not many are fond of the straight bar, the ez curl is slightly better reviewed.

I've been using them almost 3 years now. They're great. I got all 3 stages from woot back then a little cheaper, but this is probably the new low price. I looked at others for substantially more money, they all seemed prone to the locking mechanism breaking that selects the weight. These seem the most durable. If something did break, you could jb weld epoxy them and keep going. Highly recommend.

I've had this exact unit for well over 7-8 years. These things are the best investment I've ever had. Really have never had any problems except when I moved the stage 2's got dented but their customer service sent me a free replacement if I covered shipping! Highly suggest these over like a Bowflex system.

Anyone happen to know if the PowerMax 2.0 stand fits REP Quickdraws? The width tolerance is super tight: 8.5" (stand) to 8.45" (Quickdraw cradle.) It's either a perfect snug fit if their width measurement excludes the lipped edges, or a total dealbreaker if the lip is included.
