So SO much better than the twist dial weights. You can hold these close enough to your body to do a natural curl vs the twist weights are always too wide.
I do recommend getting the stand if you can also afford that. You can also add weights to this as you progress vs being g stuck at the lower weights of many of the twist dials.

PowerBlock EXP adjustable dumbbells are praised as a compact, durable alternative to twist dial sets, with a more natural curl position, quick weight changes, and easy expansion as strength increases. The stand gets strong support for keeping the weights off the floor, reducing bending, and making the setup feel more convenient over time. Main tradeoffs are the bulky cage, thicker rubber grips, and occasional awkwardness for curls or small hands. Compatibility for bars and some expansion kits is limited, so future add ons need checking.

I missed the last sale on the EXPs last time, so I bought them this go around. For the Elite USAs, are you at all annoyed by the "cage" of the two bars at the top? I feel like the EXPs are a good alternative, being that its a more "open cage"
If you don't mind not having the adder weights people have removed the bottom tubs of these Exp models. All that is left is one metal bar in the bottom middle.

I love mine. I've done a few exercises where these are less than ideal, but that is the exception not the rule.

Great product. The stand is worth it!
I have the older version of the same stand and that was well worth it. This one looks sleeker and I'm envious!

I have the original 5-50 powerblocks. Does anyone know if thr expansions would fit on those?
Not the sport. Technically the square USA expansions fit the original square ones: https://youtu.be/4h_X5oVlCz8?si=txH7Z1vV3oYmnFIq

Like many in this thread, I too have a pair of the older models, which came with a stand. Mine are bulky so it makes certain movements less than ideal to perform. Despite that, I do use them daily and they hold up very well. It's the next best thing to having a dumbbell collection. No regerts.
The stand is not a necessity, but it's certainly appreciated. It has slots that hold the adder weights, allows you to keep the unused weight on the stand while you lift, and make it so you don't have to bend over to pick the PowerBlocks up. The higher the weight, the more important that last bit is. Also worth mentioning - the top of the stand is textured so it somewhat "grabs" the weights. They're not going to slide around.
Good luck on your weight lifting journey. Praise be to the creatine and protein gods!
