The Ender 3 V3 SE is a low cost entry into 3D printing that can feel surprisingly ready to use when the refurb unit is sound. It has a good app interface, auto leveling, and enough polish to get prints going without much fuss, and the refurbished finish can look nearly new. The main drawback is that Creality refurb quality can be uneven, and this model may still leave room for upgrades or tinkering. Faster alternatives like the Flashforge 5M and AD5X are repeatedly framed as better value if spending a bit more is possible.

I got this deal the last time it was posted. I know it says refurbished, but the one I received sure seemed new. It was a nice cheap upgrade to my original ended 3 v1

Hard to beat $86, but is this one of those printers where you have to turn into a full time printer mechanic just to get a halfway decent print out of it?

Every printer is like that if something fails it's a long time to debug and from what I've read usually user error. Bambu isnt error proof either so when people say get a Bambu, it's because they already had one before and know what they are getting into or just got lucky so far. It is pretty good interface from the app to print so I'll say that is top tier. Pretty sure you can root this to get a solid web interface and be able to sent things to print from various slicers. TLDR this is very low barrier to entry 3d printing and definitely worth it if you don't have one and want one

I bought an engraver from Creality, had it for a month and the laser hasn't fired once. Their customer service is complete trash.

Below is what I said when this deal was posted a week or so back. Basically, it's not a bad printer. It's not the old Ender 3 that requires manual leveling etc. As an open frame printer it has limits but if you are willing to accept what is by today's standards a slow printer, it can do good work. Another limitation is you have to load the files via an SD card. No USB or network abilities. Given that very good printers like the Flashforge 5M have been as cheap as $141, it's hard to recommend this unless you have a tight budget. This could be a good printer to start and get a feel for printing then possibly upgrading in the future. I wouldn't say the same about the 5M. While it's only single color, if you are OK with the print size and are mostly interested in lower temp materials, it may be good enough to never need an upgrade. So it's not that I think this is a bad printer (I had one and it was a reliable printer), rather for not too much more you can get printers that offer so much more speed, networking etc.

I'm not sure at what price point the V3SE becomes a good buy. I say this as someone who had one for a while. However, the reason why I stopped using mine is the reason why I find it really hard to recommend a deal like this. The Flashforge 5M is the printer that replaced mine and recently was on sale for $141. The 5M doesn't have quite the build volume (220mm tall vs 250mm) but only once did I ever print something taller than 220mm (it was 230mm). The 5M is much faster (one of the fastest on the market at any price). It also offers full wired and wireless network support.

I think the Bambu suggestions are silly here. It's not that the A1/A1mini aren't great models, it's just that if you are budget limited to say around $100 the BL printers are 2-4x that price. Not the same ball park. Conversely, the FF 5M is much closer and honestly, for single color, is just such a good printer.

My take on this printer is, it's older tech but still not a bad printer even for a novice. Were it not for a lot of very compelling deals around $150-250 I wouldn't hesitate to suggest this as a first time printer. It's not Ender 3 Pro slow, perhaps half way between the old Ender 3 and the modern FF. Contrary to claims by people who think this is the same thing as an Ender 3 Pro, this does have full bed leveling and auto Z offset. The bed level is fixed (unless you want to get out the tools). Having gotten used to USB and/or network access to the printer, the SE's use of an SD card seems really old fashion (funny what's considered "old fashion" in 3D printers). The interface screen is limited but honestly works well. My biggest issues with the printer was I had to adjust the Z-offset when I changed from the factory PC to a PEI build plate. Other than speed and having to use the SD card to load files, it's really not a bad printer and can do some decent work so long as you stick with PLA and other entry level materials.

However, one other big issue is Creality Ebay refurbs. Lots of stories about people getting something less than "refurbished". I have to admit I've purchased two printers from them. The Ender 3 S1 Pro was not as described. I was expecting "for parts" and I got "new in box, never assembled". Basically for a stupidly low price at the time I got a new printer. The second was my K1max. It did looked like a reasonable "used a few times, returned" deal. It included everything and worked nicely. The only "issue" was a slight rub mark on the build plate that can be seen on prints. However, your luck may be different. If these were new condition for this price I think I would say, "good starter printer". Not sure given the risks with "refurb". Is a bad print because the V3SE is bad or just you got a bad model?

Hmmm....

Yes...ish. Really, I would suggest waiting for the next time the FF 5M goes on sale. It's just a better printer in almost every way for $50-60 more.

If this were a new in box V3SE I think I would say yes. Mine was well behaved and wasn't hard to learn. Honestly, a lot of learning 3D printing in my view is learning how to setup and slice your parts. When to use support, various fill patterns and ways to get a first layer to stick (blue painters tape is great). This printer won't get in the way as you learn those things.

Where this deal makes me nervous is if you get a dud. I've heard really mixed things about "refurbished" Creality printers. My two examples have been very good. However, as a counter example, my first V3SE was an "open box" from one of the online sellers who normally does camera gear. That printer had several issues out of the box. Not sure if they were from the factory or because "open box" meant, opened, assembled, screwed up then returned. At least one of the issues with that first printer I think was a factory assembly error (The metal tab that holds the strain gauge was attached incorrectly). That wasn't an easy issue to figure out and even though I did figure it out I decided to return that one just in case. Later I purchased a new one from Microcenter and it had no issues though it was replaced by my FF 5M not too long after I got it.

So, unless cost is really the most critical thing, I would probably pass and get the FF 5M instead. My 5M was really good and print times were much faster (the V3SE times are typically 50-100% longer for the same print).

This is about to what it is worth, to be honest. It prints and it's usable obviously but a bit frustrating in several ways. I got me refurbished ender 3 v3 se for about $100 and the best thing about it was it let me know that I did indeed want to get into this hobby but also immediately knew I needed to upgrade immediately. Although $100 isn't crazy expensive, you'll likely want to do some of the upgrades like the filament run out sensor and led lights which will cost you more, I do wish I instead just went straight into a better printer for a hundred or two more.

If you just want to play around and tinker but not sure if you want to invest much more yet, or maybe want it for a kid, you'd still probably be better off with at least a minor upgrade. The flash forge ad5x is a great little machine with lots of extra features and is going for around 240 right here on sd threads.

Yes. It is serviceable but cannot recommend. The only machines I won't take for free are Enders and anything by Snapmaker.Flashforge ad5x would be my pick in the entry level ranges. It doesn't beg for upgrades on day 1.They will ALL occasionally have an unexpected blob of death/clog/broken filament in a tube or sensor; and you don't have to spend bambu/qidi money to have fun - but I'd skip the Enders.

"Enders" is too broad a term. There is a huge difference between an Ender 3 v1 vs the V2 vs the S1 Pro vs the Ender V3 etc. The early printers were good because they were low cost and good for people who wanted to learn about the hobby. The latter really are decent printers. This is a decent printer (if the refurb example is sound) but the FF 5M is just so much better for so little extra. If this were the only sub $300 option this would be a great recommendation. But when we have so many deals under $200 this is hard to recommend vs those other deals.

I know the "ender means you spend all your time fixing it" is a bit of a meme at this point, but I have had zero trouble with mine. It went together easily, it was cheap as hell, and I learned a lot about the whole printing process. I'd say if the choice is an ender now, or a more expensive one next year, get the ender. The jump in possibility from no printer to ender is greater than the jump from ender to better printer.
