Diablo 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. D2R was great and I spent way too much time on it yet again.

But for what you get here, the $25 they were trying to charge for this "expansion" of a 25 year old game was an insult. IMO even $20 is still too much.

Maybe I'll pick it up if it up at $10. But I think D4 has been on sale for $10 (maybe $15?), that is a way better value proposition since they're still making content for it currently.

Will they have it on sale for $10?

Personally, I think the vast majority of players still playing (or considering playing) Diablo 2 in 2026 will find the QOL features worth 20 bucks. Less than $1/year since the game came out. Will there be more updates beyond a few balance changes? Probably not, although we can hope. But I personally don't mind rewarding them for putting development resources into a 27 year old game and coming up with generally positive gameplay changes this late on.

I bought the game, but I never played because of all these seasons. You collect all your items and then they tell you a new season is starting. All time and money you spent on it is worthless.

Why not play offline, or online non-ladder? Ladder seasons can be thought of more as a way to add challenge for experienced players, but they are optional.

Probably not? Look how much they've added to d2r since release. They are still actively developing a fan favorite 20+ years later

Probably not likely until next year

They are making content for d2r too. Hence the expansion. Go to d4 though if you want a terrible game

They introduced a few runewords and terror zones and then it was a completely dead game for like 10 seasons (4 years?) before they shadow dropped this update with a new class and QOL features. Believe me I was looking for a reason to play during that time.

That is not what I would call "active development." They are probably done again for a while (if not forever) since the Warlock here was mostly to hype up their current game's (D4) Warlock and real expansion.I don't even like D4, I was just saying if you're looking for a ARPG fix that it's a better value than this when it's on sale for $10-15. If you're looking for a "good" modern ARPG, check out Path of Exile 2 which is coming out with a huge update in a week, but that will run you $30 for early access (or wait 6 months to a year when it will be free to play).

Ah Poe player. Got it. Project Diablo 2 is pretty good if you're looking for the same Diablo style

you can only run baal so many times over the last 20 years before d2 gets boring. d4 is now much better than it was on release, and this is coming from someone who absolutely hated release day d4

Fun class, great QoL features and few new runewords. If you're a die hard fan, you probably own this already. However, it is not 2001 anymore and the competition is fierce.
