A much more reasonable price, but you'd be better off picking up a generic $10 1080p webcam on Amazon.

If you want the ability to mount it on the Switch 2's top USB-C port while handheld, there are also cheap 720p cameras that do that as well, and they come with a little flower pot USB stand for when you're docked.

I don't think this is the 720p version that is the off brand one (imo practically ewaste), this is (per an answered question) 1080p official Nintendo camera

I'm looking for something to use the $10 cert on this might be it

Yes, I know. I'm saying don't buy the Nintendo OEM product unless having the Nintendo product gives you warm fuzzy feelings. Instead, you should just buy a regular 1080p webcam, which can be had for $10.

If you play handheld, there is a product that is designed for that, also $10, but it is 720p and not 1080p like the Nintendo camera.

Does a usb-a webcam plugged into the dock work? Only thing I don't like about the Nintendo is usb-c so it needs to be plugged into the console

Yes, I've been using a generic webcam plugged into the dock USB-A port since day 1.
One caveat of using a 3rd party webcam is that it's best to tell the Switch 2 to use its own built-in microphone rather than the one built in to the USB camera. That way you get to take advantage of the Switch 2's noise cancellation for voice chat, which is quite good.

What do you use it for? I've been tempted to get a cam for the Switch 2 to unlock another feature but it just doesn't seem that useful.

It's fun for local multiplayer with Mario Kart World to see the faces of the other racers.

For a while I would do video GameChat with my nephew when we were both online and screen share with our picture on top, but we haven't done that in a while.
