I'd hate hunting for green golf balls after teeing off. Almost seems like a cruel color to pick. My friends laugh at me, but I tend to use orange balls. And over time, many of my friends I play with have come around to using orange balls too. They make it so easy to find your shot.

Nice deal here, but think hard before picking green golf balls.

Edit: I guess my friends and I are not normal. So get the green balls since the internet claims they are easier to find. I was apparently wrong. Turns out bright green is the easiest to see everywhere but the courses my apparently green colorblind friends and I play. I'd still play white balls over green, but I don't want to steer anyone wrong.

Tests show green and yellow are the easiest to see actually. The matte neon green stands out a lot in the grass.

Colors directly opposite each other on the color wheel (known as complementary colors) provide the strongest standard contrast. Red is opposite green.

In our real-world play tests the bright red and bright orange have been the easiest to see. High viz yellow is good unless the grass is turning yellow which is an issue at the course we go to most often. High viz green does not stand out on this lighter grass in our experience.

But by all means, if you think green balls on green grass is easier for you to see than something with a lot more contrast, by all means play what you like. We only can see them easily when the grass is a deep, dark green.

Been playing for a decade, everyone I golf with laughs how they can always see my bright orange balls. Literally have had this discussion a zillion times because most of the guys we play with initially seem opposed to orange balls. They give me so much crap about them, but after a few rounds they start noticing how easy my shot is to see compared to theirs.

Try it yourself and form your own opinion, don't take my word for it.

I am curious to see the tests you're talking about. Can you link me to one so I can check out their methodology?

I know in theory you are correct... but opposite of green is red, and I find those blaze red balls to be awful to find. I do agree in practice orange is probably the easiest to see during any season, but I can find them sometimes distracting and harder to find value with quality orange balls.

What I typically do is play white or yellow in the spring and summer as they are easy to see on a solid green background. I do however start playing orange in the fall as they tend to be easier to see against fallen leaves (my hunter orange theory), and you can find better deals on quality orange balls later in the season.

I found this hard to believe at first. I had been using Srixon two colored balls (yellow/orange) because I found them easier to track in the air and then easy enough to find on the ground. I got a deal on some Bridgestone e12's that were matte green and thought 'ok, never going to find this in the rough' (an area that I'm intimately familiar with), but so far as easy if not easier than the Srixons. Definitely not as easy to track in the air though.

I mean you can simply google it or use YouTube. There is no real science behind any of it other than self-experimentation via Blog and/or Video. There is only one methodology to follow, and that's to play with each ball color and then see which can be seen easier... (ie: hit multiple color balls into the fairway/rough/etc. and see which you spot)
There are literally hundreds of videos going over how Yellow > Orange > White for visibility... they wouldn't sell so many Yellow balls if they didn't serve some general purpose other than aesthetic.. otherwise other colors would be popular too.

I don't have to Google it, we play and have extensively tested it ourselves. Buy the green, it's your choice. Orange is easiest for me by far. If you see green buy those. Or buy a variety and figure out your own preference. For me it's bright orange, then bright yellow, then bright white. I'm still looking forward to reading these tests if anyone wants to post them so I can see how people (outside of my friend group) see green better than high viz orange or yellow.

The red balls are often darker than orange so we don't play those, but if they are high viz enough we see them easily. Orange balls are both bright enough and provide enough contrast to make them easy to see.
