Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
I bought a 1-cup and a 2-cup version of these a couple of weeks ago. I found my 1-cup glass chipped and cracked after about 1 week. I then tried to "exchange" it but WalMart does not allow you to exchange and keep the price (The price had gone up by the time this happened and I drove back) so there's that.
The bigger issue I have with the Anchor Hocking is the pour spout design. If your common workflow has a lot of slow pouring of measured liquids out of the measuring cup these will run down the side of the cup if you do this too slow. I've tried using this for pouring water & yeast when mixing bread dough and that didn't go well. My pyrex (little p) works much better for that.
Anchor Hocking's 2 cup glass measuring cup comes across as a sturdy, inexpensive kitchen basic that feels far better than flimsy plastic. The thick glass, durable markings, and solid build make it useful for everyday measuring, garage tasks, and replacing plastic cups. The main knocks are the pour spout, which can run down the side on slow pours, and reports that the printed markings can fade or the glass can chip. It is a practical workhorse if you want a cheap glass cup and can live with the spout design.
Home cooks replacing flimsy plastic measuring cups, because the glass feels solid and works better than cheap plastic ones.
Yes. It's described as solid, surprisingly sturdy for the price, and a big upgrade over plastic measuring cups. Several comments also call it a kitchen workhorse and a great value.
It pours fine for normal use, but the spout can run down the side if you pour slowly. The larger lip and spout design are also called out as making precise pouring harder than on Pyrex.
The $3.97 price appears to depend on a mail-in rebate, so the out-of-pocket cost may be higher if you do not submit it. If you can complete the rebate or avoid extra delivery charges, it is still a low price for a glass measuring cup.
The markings are reported to hold up well on some cups and never fade, but another report says the printing disappears after a while. That makes the durability of the printed measurements a possible weak point.
What exactly is worse than a Pyrex measuring glass? What would I be doing where the Pyrex version is better?
I've used mine hundreds of times for boiling water, measuring ingredients.
Pouring. The big lip on soda glass makes pouring a pain. Soda glass is heavy. Soda glass is shocky and will break if you have something hot in it and put it on a marble or stone counter that sucks the heat away too quickly. Borosilicate snob for life.
That's after a mail-in rebate. How many people actually use mail-in rebates? I'll answer that because I worked in that field.. most people intend to fill out the mail-in rebate but never do. Not worth it. Go to Walmart and order.

If you shop at Menards, you use the rebates. They never expire.
Even if you find a rebate receipt that you forgot to send in a year ago, they accept it with no headaches.
Even without the rebate, Menards is often cheaper than Amazon or Wally on made in USA stuff like Anchor Hocking, Pitboss Pellets or Montana Tools.

The glass measuring cup can work well for kitchen tasks and can outperform plastic measuring cups.
The thicker glass can feel more solid than expected for the price.
The printed measurement markings can stay readable over time without fading.
The cup can be useful for garage mixing and pouring when slow-pour issues are not part of the workflow.
The pour spout design can cause slow pours to run down the side of the cup.
The glass can chip or crack after about a week of use.
The printed measurement markings can fade or disappear over time.
The $3.97 price can require a mail-in rebate that many people may not complete.
