Throw away that reel and put in a cheap reliable shimano sienna. Makes a great trolling lake fishing rod. Smilie

Just got mine this week. It comes with a 6# line. The reel is not super smooth but for $18, good bang for the buck.

I disagree on both counts. These rods are great for fishers of all levels. The reel comes prestrung.

Bad advice parroted too much in my opinion. I caught hundreds of fish on the stock reel. It isn't smooth and refined, but it absolutely works well. This isn't Shakespeare from the 1980's. The reels hold up well now.

Bought last year and took to Dick's Sporting to get a line done but was turned away because it's made of plasticFrown any diy on putting line on it? I tried but kept on getting tangled when used. Or a cheap replacement reel?

Excellent little rod for fishing off the dock, especially if you've got kids. Larger than an ice rod but much smaller and easier to handle than a 5+ft rod, these worked great last weekend when we hammered some sunfish! My daughters had a blast.
