I'll second the Fiskars recommendation. I have many of their tools including hatchets, axes and a splitting maul. I haven't been disappointed in any of them. They make great shovels too. I'd buy just about anything made by Fiskars.

It's CLEARLY not marketed as, or meant to be used as, a SPLITTING axe, it's a chopper. Saying that it's not good for splitting, causing some people to devalue the axe, is like saying about a car that's it's terrible on snow trails. 🙄 I've owned this axe for years and the people who REALLY use it on trails and camping are the ones you should be listening to. Just look at the actual product reviews by real axe users and you'll see that this is a really good value axe at this price, period!

Looks like a good costume prop. 'Here's Johnny!'
costume prop? Patrick Bateman finds that offensive.

Decent price, but not a good axe for splitting due to the head profile. If you want a splitting axe of similar size I'd recommend Fiskars X25

decent price for a weak tool: I bought one of these for $22 five years ago and broke the handle off within a few weeks.
It's a good thing you can buy replacement handles at nearly every hardware store.

Except their hand pruners. I bought 2 pairs from a deal last season. Absolute trash, and that's coming from someone who likes Fiskars.

Good price, but bunch of bad reviews. Cold steel quality went down in the past couple of years.

Wranglerstar is made of spare parts. He'll endorse anything or anybody that throws a few bucks his way. I wouldn't be surprised if his picture comes up when you look up Shill. If you want brutally honest reviews watch AvE.

can concur, ive got a fiskars pickaxe/mattock that i bought from Ace Hardware with a 15% off coupon. It splits thick roots in one or two swings with the adze side.

This is a great ace. I've bought about a dozen of them over the years and gift them to friends and family. For myself, I keep one in the trunk for winter months when tree branches come down and block the roads. I also use these for clearing paths during hunting season and light camping use.

Logged in just to upvote you. Back in the day wranglestar endorsed some high end axes coming from fire service. Everything cold steel makes is made to look legit but is usually cheap as hell in the details. No point in buying a cheap axe if it is going to break from use.

It's not a splitting axe, which is why it's not a good axe for splitting. It's not even being marketed as a splitting axe.
