Zojurushi died from user error and tried this out, the water level indicators are grey and impossible to see without shining a light on it and didn't cook the rice nearly as good as my old zojurushi. Returned it for another zojurushi

I've had this for almost a year now and it makes great rice if you use a 2:1 ratio of water:rice. Their recommendation for ratios didn't produce the best results.

each batch or type of rice may need different ratio, I usually have to learn my rice at 1st when I buy a new bag.

Do the old Asian finger measuring. Add just enough water so that if you touch your middle finger to the surface of the rice, the water level is at the crease of your first knuckle.

The big issue with this rice cooker is that the inner lid and steam cap are not removable for cleaning. This may be a deal-breaker for some.
Right now, however, the market for rice cookers not made in China is pretty inflated. If buying new, this is probably the best bang for buck model available.

Does it have to be the middle finger?

This rice cooker is poorly designed. There is no steam/condensation basket. The lid does not have mechanism to be removed and cleaned. Buy another model and consider 2 functions above.
