Gladiator two is a scam. Probably the worst fall off of all time. I turned it off when they brought in the boats into the Colosseum.
Outside of a couple of good action scenes, the first one was pretty bad, too.

Google:"ancient Rome occasionally used boats in the Colosseum for epic mock sea battles, known as naumachiae".
That's basically true, but the movie definitely makes it look way more dramatic.Ancient Romans did stage mock sea battles called naumachiae, and there is historical evidence that the Colosseum was flooded for water spectacles in its early years. But it probably was not full-size warships crashing around like a Hollywood battle scene. It was likely smaller boats, staged combat, and a lot of showmanship. So the idea is real. The Gladiator II version is Rome with the volume turned all the way up.

Huh? Isn't this historically accurate? I remember going to the Colosseum and they talked about ship battles taking place there as well.

Unfortunately, it's a lot more optimistic than our reality.
