Depends on what you're doing with it. If you don't need the latest and greatest + can stomach the potential visual imperfections (dents/scratches), enjoy the discount

M3 Pro has significantly faster GPU. M5 faster single and multi core scores. Pro chassis has better screen. So it's complicated and dependent on your needs and application.

This was 1200 new multiple times a year ago when in stock. 1080 seems high for a refurb.

Solid deal, if you are using this outdoors the screen is much easier see with 1000 bits peak brightness vs the air's 500. I am always outside so I usually prefer MacBook Pro's.

It really depends on what you'll use it for. If you're doing photo editing, video production or coding, the Pro is a better deal especially with a larger and brighter screen. If you'll be using any local LLM's (LM studio or similar), M5 Air could be a better deal. Most people won't notice the performance differences between those two machines, so it likely comes down to portability vs. better screen.

In my opinion, always new unless the discount is so substantial that you can't ignore.
M3 pro chip in the MacBook Pro chassis has more benefits than just "price".
M3 Pro MacBook Pro has over the M5 Air:
120 vs 60hz display
1,000 nits (1,600 nits HDR) MiniLED vs 500 nits LCD display
More Ports
Output to more external displays
Much better top firing speakers
Slightly better webcam
Better GPU performance across the board and better sustained CPU performance due to active cooling.

I'm assuming, a person checking out a MacBook pro already knows what's missing when you drop down to an AIR.

Not if they're asking though!
