Google Pixel Fold is a compact foldable that stands out for its wider inner screen and travel-friendly form factor, making video watching and everyday use feel more natural than taller foldables. Performance sounds fine for non gaming use, and the device can be a good low commitment entry into foldables. The main drawbacks are durability worries around the hinge and softer screen, plus heavy weight, weak battery life, slow charging, and a camera that could be better. Support ends June 1, 2028, and carrier lock and warranty concerns add extra caution.

Common Questions (5)

  • Some units have been reported as AT&T-locked, while others work on Verizon and T-Mobile. If carrier features matter, verify the exact unit before buying because Wi‑Fi calling and visual voicemail may depend on the carrier-specific software.

  • The inner display uses a shorter, wider 6:5 aspect ratio that makes video and general use feel more practical than taller foldables. The tradeoff is weight: it is described as chunky and even heavier than the Pixel 10 Fold despite being smaller.

  • It can work as a daily driver, but the foldable screen and hinge are still the main risk points. Comments mention softer inner-screen material, debris getting between the screens, and hinge wear, so insurance is strongly recommended.

  • Update support ends around June 1, 2028, which is about two years from the comments' perspective. That shorter remaining support window is a key tradeoff versus newer Pixels that are supported longer.

  • No, the original Pixel Fold does not support display/video out. That makes it a poor fit if you want to use AR glasses or an external monitor, even though it is otherwise usable as a foldable.

End of life is 2 years like a previous poster mentioned. What isn't mentioned in this thread is the phone is locked to AT&T. Users have already reported this problem. https://forums.woot.com/t/new-goo.../2410312/8Don't buy this thinking you can install grapheneOS to bypass the 2year end of life. AT&T phones have the bootloader locked. (I could be wrong about the bootloader being locked).
I don't think this is true. I got mine New from Woot a couple months back, and it's working fine on T-Mobile. Another poster mentioned theirs working fine on Verizon.

If these things weren't weight as much as a brick and camera was a little better. I would still be rocking this. Oh and its ear piece was rough to deal with ( had to angle and jam it a certain way in my ear ). But other than that, loved it more than my fold 7 and other foldables I've had.

i really want this but unless you buy a phone locked to its carrier OS, you will not get wifi calling or visual voice mail. So if those are important to you, you must buy a carrier specific phone with carrier specific OS. The ones that turn on and play the Tmobile logo, or the ATT logo. I heard you can reflash the phone to carrier specific OS, but i believe ATT never carried this phone so you will not be able to do so.
The only exception to this i hear is Apple tho.

As someone who bought it, I would generally tell others to get a pixel 9 fold or 10 fold.

This OG pixel fold doesn't support display/video out, making it less useful.

I bought AR Glasses like RayNeo & was disappointed that the pixel fold doesn't support video out, so I bought the pixel 10 fold

Just note that it's also heavier than the pixel 10 fold, despite being smaller. Its actually so noticable that I had to double check with ChatGPT.
The lack of video out is exactly why I didn't get one. For most that probably doesn't matter, but for us that use that feature, it's a must have.

I really think they gotta make these things open to a 16 by 9 or 16 by 10 big screen, that way you get the big video watching without the extra weight in your pocket. 16 by 10 could be great with a quick Auto zoom feature, so when the video is full screen you're only missing a little bit on each side, but appearing even bigger
I'll probably end up getting one of these when that's the deal and it's affordable
I really like these wider, shorter phones. I hate that phones moved to such tall skinner aspect ratios. Like, they should have stayed 16x9 (16x10 ideally) at most, and when the tech to have no bezels became common-place, just shorten the dang device instead of making weird random tall screens.

I have a Pixel 8 and have had Pixel phones since Pixel 1's, so I'm a fan of the ecosystem. Also have Google Fi as my carrier as of recent.

I'm very intrigued about this phone/this deal but note that this will be supported for 2 years LESS than my Pixel 8 which is supposed to get updated through Fall 2030.

My gut says that it's probably not worth the switch but would other's thoughts.

As a pixel 10 pro user, the chip gets sluggish with new updates and full storage. I can't imagine how slow this 3 year old phone would be on the latest Android version.

Not saying your info might not apply in some case, again on Verizon and I have both Wi-fi calling and Visual voicemail.

Its great phone if you don't game or run intensive apps. Battery life is not good and also charging speed is slow. Other than that its great phone. Love the form factor.

I ordered this last time it came up on Woot! and they were definitely the weakest link in the process. The phone was advertised as fully unlocked but shortly after ordering but before being shipped Woot! sent an email saying some of us might be getting a phone locked to AT&T but that it could be easily remedied with a user update (color me skeptical). Ultimately what got me to ask for a refund was a month after ordering my order was still listed as "shipping now" without actually being shipped. The refund went smoothly and I never had this problem with Woot! prior to this, but it made me reconsider ordering anything costing more than I can afford to lose with them.

Thanks OP I got mine new for $550 a while back. It's definitely not flagship level for 2026 in some aspects but I've been using it as my daily driver. No major complaints, great entry point into the foldable category without shelling out $2k. My favorite part is the shorter, wider aspect ratio which makes watching videos and using the inner screen in general much more useful in my opinion. Samsung and Apple are using a wider aspect ratio in their upcoming foldables and I hope that continues. The wider ones are much superior to the taller ones imo. One note, end of life for updates is June 1 2028, so you're getting 2 years out of this at most.
What is "not flagship level" mean? My TCL from 2020 seems pretty amazing for a $120 when brand new phone. The screen is plastic/glass and there is some basic feature missing. I forget what it was; its not enough to happen again as a secondary to remember. So that should be like $60 if they sold it still. Obv the camera an screen aren't billion dollar items but it's fast and better than my Dell laptop screen that was like $2500 new. I also eaisly used my Samsung s5 till I smashed it on purpose; no fault of the phone. Which I valued a lot cause it still had features newer phones don't.

I'm a hardcore tech user since my birth in the 80s so I have a lot to compare it to, always have 3 androids going and carry 2. Cheap Samsungs an all the Motorola I've used are worse. I main a S24 ultra and mostly it booting in 15 seconds and not 30 are the main features it has I benefit from; outside of extreme production levels like taking and editing 4k videos which is extremely niche for me to find people who's job title is video director/editor. Who usually use apple cause it's compatible with Hollywood studio software.

Not being a jacknape, Am I missing something?

I jumped on this when it was open box for 300. Thing is mint. If you want to get into folding phones wo having to fully commit, I think it suits that purpose perfectly. Oh and form factor is perfect. Lil chunky but she still travels well
$500 is not committing? 😳 I swear people sound rich an complain they aren't as a tactic to appear weak to gain more. I don't think I've ever made a $500 an above purchase without it being a many month long seriously planned out life decision investing in future gains.

I said 300 did I not? Now take that any subtract the 150 I'll sell my old phone for and now I'm in for 150

So would you take a flyer on a new tech (fold), unlocked phone with guaranteed support for 2 more years at $150?

My commitment comment meant most fold phones require long term contracts or youre paying $$$$ and then still being likely locked to that carrier.

I swear, some people just can't see past their nose. If it doesn't make sense to them, we'll then it can't possibly make sense in any other case

Why you gonna sell your old computer? My computers I payed $200 for In like 2012 still worked pretty good; outside of editing 4k videos which still takes massive time even on a $4000 super computer . Had features new computers don't. Google was blocking some of it from the play store; but that's on Google to pay me for; not me to pay them for. Every computer is profit. The point of a computer is to do work. Weve been running 20+ computers in every house I've lived in since the 2000s. Half of those were dug out the trash; or set aside the dumpster cause the person thought the virus killed their PC; they usually set them outside the dumpster.

Like I said, I don't think people can't see past their nose. I think many people are putting on glasses and suits to Convince others they are respectable people but can't see past their noses. I actually *know* that cause my friend in 94 sold pencil shavings in a bag cause it cost 12 cents but made him $25. And it was throughly planned out to sell the pencil shavings to reap a 30,000% profit.
