I've enjoyed kayaking every time I've done it and I've been interested in buying my own, surely this are as good or better than any kayaks I'd be able to rent for a reasonable price, right?

This style of kayak is very popular for occasional recreational use. Always use a life jacket even if you are a strong swimmer. If you really become an avid kayaker you will likely join a club or group and take lessons in stroke, brace, rescue, etc. And like all sports, you will spend at least a thousand on a longer boat, spray skirt, better paddles, etc. But for now, just do it simple and enjoy yourself.
