500 for a stick vac is insane, and this is coming from someone who had a family member that sold Electrolux/Aerus that could go up to $3500 (also insane).

i just bought a new house with carpet and i'm obsessive about keeping it as clean as possible. I'm willing to splurge on something like this, but should I consider a good steam cleaner instead? or are the two for different purposes?
I was all about it until I noticed there was no fluffy optic head, so I'll pass. For five hundred bones they need to include that also and they will when they run it on Black Friday or as a QVC TSV.
These do not suck as well as plug in vacuums! More for small apartments as battery life is barely 10 minutes on max
yes, exactly! the single most overlooked fact about ALL cordless vacuum's: you need to use the max speed on these vacuum's, to get a decent cleaning and then it's only 75% of the power of a corded dyson. BUT NOTE, as mentioned, you get less then 10-12 minutes battery run time on that max speed. it's simply a "lose, lose" with cordless vacuum's. convenience has a major cost. google: "The Dyson V15 runs for about 5 to 15 minutes on max speed (Boost mode), depending on the floor type and attachment being used".
Did they fix their garbage batteries with this one?
don't bet on it. googling says: "The Dyson V15 runs for about 5 to 15 minutes on max speed (Boost mode), depending on the floor type and attachment being used".

Almost no tool is going to ever surpass the plugged in equivalent, thisis a very simple concept. You aren't supposed to use boost the whole time to try to clean a whole house in one go.

Different uses. This vacuum is for spot cleaning or quick sweeping. A steam cleaner does the deep cleaning but most people don't really pull that out more than every month. If you're "obsessed," with keeping carpet clean, consider a high end vacuum robot that does mapping and object detection/avoidance. We have multi story home and we run robot vacs every day -- basically one for each floor-- they keep stuff from building up. But then we use our battery stick vacs for quick clean up before guest arrival, spot messes and stairs and corners that we want more clean. We use our steam carpet cleaner for deep cleans. We also maintain plugin air purifiers for keeping skin and other dust from even landing on the carpet and/or keeping odors out of it.
