New to woodworking. What are any limitations to this unit? Is 6 1/8" limiting? Speeds/torgue wtc...?
I would like to build shelves - sofa tables - etc...
Thanks

This is actually a pretty good tool for starting. The one I got when I was first starting was an early-'80s Craftsman I got off craigslist circa 2012, but it was 6-1/8" as well, and it served me well for years. One area not to skimp: dust collector.

I see this for $493 after tax on the aafes site. Am I a fool if I don't buy it?

Go with the ridgid, you can upgrade the blades on the ridgid to helical if you decide that's needed later, and in the meantime you'll have a cast iron top (Grizzly is aluminum), rabbet capable (grizzly is not), and a much larger table (important for long boards, a jointer can't do it's job if the table isn't long enough to "correct" the bow/cups that might be present).
