furniture is like that especially in furniture stores. It's normal for a bed couch whatever to be $750+ any furniture store or mattress firm and the people that go usually have to get on a weekly payment plan to buy it..

once it gets to clearance, used, ikea clearance, goodwill, etc can get to sub $50 bucks

Doubt this ever sold for $700 MSRP A lot of fake Walmart furniture deals have been posted with outrageous MSRP's for poor quality particle board furniture. There was a dining room table with same $700ish MSRP also selling for $199 a few days back. Suspect this is just SD getting paid to post things. Discounts off inflated MSRP does not make a deal.

Furniture is like jewelry historically has been. There's a concept called "keystone" or "keystoning" in retail where you double the cost twice to set the retail price. Thus, if something costs you $10, you set the retail at $40. This way you can have a "half price" sale and still make money. While jewelry prices fluctuate due to gold or silver content, it's an easy way for salesman to also remember their cost at a glance when negotiating a discount with a customer. Sometimes the keystone percentage is adjusted for a specific industry but the concept is the same. While it doesn't apply to Walmart, it likely does for most furniture stores that allow personnel to adjust the price for an individual buyer.
