I have the EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS 10lb, 15lb, 25lb, and 35lb 2" Olympic bumper plates just like these and they are all great, no off gassing smell or problems. They just came with a light coating of oil that I had to wash off with Dawn soap and a hose in the backyard before using them. Since the ones in this post are all made by the same company & are the same line of bumper plates as mine, I'd assume these 45lb and 55lb plates would be equally as good.

I have been building a set from these Walmart deals. I bought the pair of 55lb colored ones a couple of weeks ago and so far so good. Minimal smell. I have been waiting for the blue 45lb plates to go on sale. I'm tempted with this, but I don't see me doing any lifts with 4 55lb plates.

55lb plates are overkill for 99% of people.

People who deadlift 600lbs have no problem using 45lb plates.

They are more of a hassle to use, higher chance of injury, and have fewer uses. The only time I have ever used a 55lb plate was for face lifts and handles, iron plates, or cable machines are better.

No one will argue that iron plates aren't superior, but the rubber plates are far cheaper per pound, even on secondhand marketplaces. And your comment that cable machines are better is subjective and depends on use case; for those who don't have the space or finances to build a full home gym with cables, plates and dumbbells are the only options.
I bought a 370 lb set of these Everyday Essential bumpers a couple of months ago to supplement my Barbell Standard iron set and am a big fan of the 55s. Again, it's different for each individual.
A pair of 45s and 55s for $113 is still a hell of a deal.

Looks like it came back in stock. I would not be surprised if it comes and goes.

My issue is not with bumper plates but the 55lb plate itself. It's not a practical limit for a single plate. I could squat 450lbs for reps, deadlift far more and I have no use for a 55lb plate. Everyone drops plates eventually. I have tweaked my back for a few days by not paying attention and swinging 45s on the bar when it's in a high position. More risk involved than there is reward using 55lb plates. I've been lifting for decades and I'll die on this hill, they really bug me.

I like bumper plates for all leg and back lifts and regular plates for chest and arms but if I only had room for one set it would be bumper plates.
