These SafeRacks overhead garage racks are praised as a sturdy way to reclaim floor space and store bulky or rarely used items above the garage door or workbench. The 4 by 8 size, adjustable drop range, and beefy construction make them useful for plywood, bins, tents, and other heavy gear, and the current $200 two pack is repeatedly described as a strong price versus past sales. Installation is doable for handy DIYers, but it takes careful measuring, stud finding, and patience, and some orders arrived with packaging damage or quantity confusion. A solid garage storage upgrade if you can handle the install and checkout details.

I think you can.. The middle section has 2 slats per bar.. that connect to the ceiling , so you could split those up. The outside ends have a single slat that connects to the ceiling .
I have seen people fit these in the space above the garage door .
you get 2 drop rails on the Drop Down Range: 12 in. - 24 in.
so just use 1 drop rail at 12 inch, plus the deck is about 3 inch..
so you would be at 15" all in if you do the max on 1 drop down rail
or you could raise the deck on the single drop down rail and be at 14 inches
I dont consider myself that handy and I was able to do one of these myself
with a drilling jig (suggested above) , a good stud finder (that shows the total beam - not just the edges). mabye a laser pointer for alignement , and just patience on getting this measured out.. this is a DIY project
imo, The hard part is getting it measured and aligned correctly.. bolts centered in studs, bolts vertically drilled.
going very slowly and patiently , this could take about 4-5 hours
