Pro tip: don't be nervous to rent a car to get around the sights. While staying in Auckland, we rented a car, just for the day, so we didn't have to pay for parking. We drove to Hobbiton, the mud baths and beaches.
There we tons of people there for a month plus, but I didn't have that kind of time off work. We were there I think 9 days, half in the Auckland area and the other half on the south island. We did the train from Wellington back to Auckland at the end which was really cool.
For Hobbiton, get your tickets early because they do sell out. It's such a cool experience. We are not huge LOTR or Hobbit fans, but we watched the movies before going and it was honestly an amazing experience. You can rent a car and drive to Hobbiton and save yourself the long bus ride.
2 weeks should be plenty of time. You need a day-ish for Milford Sound. Queenstown is just a cool place to spend a few days. The train is fun because you can see a lot. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.
