I've found this to be immensely useful in identifying older spec, low wattage cables that didn't charge things as fast so I could recycle them and get them out of my cable pile.
How did you go about doing this?
I'm guessing connecting to a known high power device (i.e. a laptop)?

Headline: Do not Buy! False advertising - Fails basic load testing.
I bought this to replace an older 8-port model, but this 252W version is an absolute no-go. I tested the USB-C ports one at a time using an electronic load tester at 20V (increasing by 100mA past 2A) to see if they could actually hit the advertised 100W per port claim.
None of them even came close before shutting down completely and the tests were performed one port at a time and multiple times to avoid flukes:
  • USB-C1: Shuts off at 48W
  • USB-C2: Shuts off at 53W
  • USB-C3: Shuts off at 72W
  • USB-C4: Shuts off at 62W
I didn't even bother testing the other ports. Don't fall for the YouTube and influencer hype on this one. It's a massive waste of time and money, and it is going straight back to Amazon.

Awesome! I was just looking at these hoping that I could get them for the lowest price of $60. You are able to plug in and unplug devices without killing the other devices. I use this for a raspberry pi computer. Whenever I use a regular charger and plug in something else, it always kills the pi. No more with this. I got one for my office and one for home. The coupon applied for each unit.
Grand. Thanks for sharing.

Alternate Headline: Check your cables.

I attempted to duplicate these results.
My setup:
ATORCH DL24 150W load tester
PD trigger board set to 20V

I tested three cables - one Essenger aliexpress special, one USB4 labelled cable, and one unbranded cable.

The unbranded cable did exhibit the behavior specified, shutting off around ~70W.

HOWEVER, using the USB4 cable or the Essenger cable, I was able to get 100W from each of the 4 ports in turn.

I repeated the test with a 65W laptop, and did not observe renegotiation as I plugged/unplugged the load on the other side.

Note that there's a chart in the manual -- roughly, always plug lower power devices in the 2nd line (CxB), it won't rebalance if you have a low power device in C1A and plug a high power device into C1B.

So you did a single incomplete test without controls and it's definitely a false advertisement and not (probably) bad unit?

I wanted to followup. I asked about updating older units to Sabrent support, and I was essentially told that I was SOL. I was pissed. However, a few days later, I was contacted by some kind of manager who offered to swap BOTH my older units for newer ones. I use mine every day, and don't often care about the display, so I decided not to do it. But, it was definitely a classy move and one that somewhat restored my good impression of the company.
