I have an older version of this model. It's fine, overall, but the frustrating thing about it is that the screen is nearly unreadable if you are wearing polarized sunglasses - a common thing to do while driving!

I wonder how this version's screen works w.r.t. polarized shades...

I bought this thing years ago, the XAVAX1000 is incredibly ancient by head unit standards.

It's still valued because carplay I believe came up with new standards and this is the only decent head unit you can buy under $500 that has an actual volume knob.

Had this for 5 years now. Love it. This and the ax200 are the only double din, volume knob, Android Auto head units from a good company. Highly recommend.

Same. The display is pretty dim in general, made worse by polarized sunglasses. That said, I like the unit overall-it's one of the few CarPlay units with a volume knob.

I used to play audio files from all sorts of storage, but does anyone really do that now or does everyone just use their phones? I thought I was slow to adapt to streaming, but even I don't have offline copies of very much on my phone anymore. And you are correct, no built-in GPS, although the built-in GPS in most headunits kind of sucks anyway. And this thing was a great unit but it's ancient, so IDK how there are still new ones available.
Lol, I'm getting quite a bit of hate. Yes, I still play music from physical media. I don't pay for any streaming services outside of netflix. I have that headunit from Walmart, but I actually use the stock head unit in my Camry hybrid as replacing it would hender some car functions. I still have all my CDs from the 90s on up. I've made flac back ups with highest quality possible as they don't take up much room anyway. Most headunits have a file and folder limit so it doesn't make sense to get the biggest drive possible. Each cd uses less than a gigabyte. Actually a CDs uses 700mb unless you get fancy. I use a small (physically) udp 128gb drive to store over 100 CD backups in my car at all times. An aftermarket head unit always sounds better than stock. It's a shame manufacturers are trying to make stock headunits so integrated into car functions so you can't easily swap them out. Phones have the most up to date directions and detours so it's best to stick with them. Back when I had my Scion XD I installed the sns-1000 which I thought I was cool. I installed a switch to ground out the handbrake wire so I could manipulate the HU while I was on the move. I never really used that feature, but instead I used my phone. Hindsight I would have grounded it out permanently. I will still hold onto that Dual headunits for when I buy a beater truck down the road. One more note; all headunits manufacturers lie about the wattage output. A quick YouTube search will reveal people that can measure output usually put headunit out per channel around 15 watts. Highend units put out 21-22 watts per channel. You are absolutely not getting 50 watts per channel.

Have had another model of Sony DIN and have to say that Sony has the most aesthetically pleasing layout, color and font when compared to its rivals

Sure you might get a "better" device but their GUI is straight @ss

6.2 inches is basically the size of an iPhone Pro Max or large Samsung phone. So i wish the monitor screen was larger to be worth it.

Will echo these comments also. It's a cheap reliable way to add CarPlay/android auto. After that it's about as basic as can be and the screen is very dim, nearly impossible to see with the sun or with wearing polarized sunglasses.I will say, it did improve the factory speakers a little also. For $200 to get CarPlay/android auto you are basically looking at the cheat android radios which are hit or miss, or this or like boss.Good thing about the Sony was that it worked all the time, never an issue with it other than the poor screen.

For people that dont need the audio/headunit but want carplay. Carpodgo T4 or T4 Plus. Best carplay setup you can get for the money period. After coupon on site $230 to $250. Nothing compares in this price range.
