This Insignia upright convertible freezer stands out for easy access and flexible garage use, with the upright layout making it simpler to find food without digging through stacked items. It has a reversible door and has been running well for years in garage and indoor setups, including as a freezer or refrigerator. The main cautions are frost buildup on the sides or edges, shelves that can feel unstable when loaded, and garage use that appears safest when it is kept at freezer temperatures rather than refrigerator temperatures. A practical pick if you want upright storage with convertible flexibility.

Common Questions (5)

  • Some units have run for years with no issues, but there are reports of frost buildup on the sides or around the edges that needs clearing every few months. One report also notes the shelves can feel unstable when loaded with heavy meats or glass containers.

  • Yes, it is reported to work well in a garage when used in freezer mode. The garage-ready behavior depends on ambient temperature: above about 50°F it runs normally, 40-50°F is a gray zone with infrequent cycling, and below about 38°F it may shut down because the garage is already cold.

  • Yes, it is convertible and can be set to refrigerator temperatures instead of freezing temps. The garage-ready use applies to freezer operation; if it is set to refrigerator temps, it should not be kept in the garage.

  • Yes, the upright layout makes it easier to reach items without bending down or digging through stacked food. That is especially useful for finding items quickly and for people who want to avoid lifting out half the contents to get to the bottom.

  • Yes, the door swing is reversible. That makes it easier to fit the freezer into different garage or room layouts.

this looks like a newer version. i got the older version 3yrs ago and still going strong. wife didn't think we'd need one but has since changed her mind...it does build frost on the sides that will need to be cleared every few months. we keep it in the dining room and also use it as a magnet board to attach all the magnet souvenirs we've picked from traveling.

I live in the PNW so it doesn't get very cold in the garage. Will it be okay to still run it in fridge setting? I am also going to read on the specs sheet but thought I'd ask here as well.
Well I live in Florida, so I don't think I'll have any issues whatsoever. Smilie

Is up to 110 degrees standard for garage ready freezers? Are there any that go higher?

Am being told this won't ship until September after I placed my order so just FYI for those looking. I'll cancel and get elsewhere.
