I installed 3 mini split AC at my house. All three mini splits are different brand. 1st Yitahome, 2nd Garvee, and 3rd Turbro. Because most of mini split AC are very quiet, but I am WRONG. I installed this brand GARVEE 9K MINI SPLIT in my mom bedroom, and the OUTDOOR FANS IS LOUD. It almost as loud as central AC outdoor fans. Even when you inside the house and all door/windows are close. You still hear the outdoor fans is running and very annoying. If anyone tell me before about this brand, I WOULD NOT BUY IT. I'm not recommence anyone buy this brand.

Garvee brand is out of question, because it outdoor unit is TOO LOUD. The other 2 brands (Yitahome & Turbro), I have debate about which one is better. So I write it out let you decide it yourself. If you want to buy one of those two brands. There all have wifi, but I didn't use it. So I can't comment on that.

Yitahome: run very quiet for both indoor and outdoor unit. But built quality is just ok, not as good as Turbro brand. It has built-in ambient temperature monitor. So when put AUTO FAN SPEED, it will run high or low when it reach temperature you set.

Turbro: run very quiet for both indoor and outdoor unit. Built quality is very good and come with hanging template. Yitahome and Garvee are not come with hanging template. I personally don't need it, because I measure and hang it more accuracy than template. But Turbro indoor unit DO NOT HAVE ambient temperature monitor built-in. So when you put on AUTO FANS SPEED, and it keeps run on HIGH. Even the room temperature is lower than temperature you set.

So I hardly decide which is better between those two. I let you decided.

I have a system similar to this one, only different is that my system is a 22 SEER2, installed in my rec room/ kitchen (20x45). It is by far the best one yet. Quiet, efficiency and keeps the whole downstairs crispy cool. Start up Amps is right about 6-7 Amps in Cooling and 8-9 Amps in Heat. Once it is in Running mode (about 1-2 hours) It draws 2.2 Amps in Cooling and about 4 Amps in Heat. Cooling-discharged air (measured at the vent) is about 45°F; heating-discharged air is about 139°F (outside temperature is about 15°F). I double-insulated the copper pipe with another 1" thick foam and covered it with a 4" vinyl downspout tube, been served me well for 2 seasons.

I installed a similar Garvee unit last year and the outdoor unit is very quiet - but the indoor unit has a LOT of fan noise. Purchased a vacuum pump and installed myself. Garvee and YitaHome are the same manufacturer 'AUX'. TOTAL PITA to get wifi connected, the original app refused to work right.
@JD713 I suspect your unit may have a fan running into something or is just a bad unit, where the compressor fell off of its feet during shipping. Open it up on a nice day and take a look. It's SUPER simple inside!

Yeah, probably I will open and get inspection inside the outdoor unit soon. I'm also making a video and contact Garvee customer service to see how their respond.

I hope things work out in your favor. Would be great if you can keep us up-to-date on your customer service experience with them.

Funny enough, an HVAC vendor was at my workplace today for their quarterly inspection. I asked for their opinion on a noisy condenser fan and motor in a new unit. They said they would typically check the following:
  1. Fan blade condition - Check whether the fan blade is bent or damaged, which could cause it to wobble and create excess turbulence and noise.
  2. Fan hub tightness - Verify that the fan blade is securely attached and not slightly loose on the hub.
  3. Incorrect or mismatched parts – For example, a fan motor with a higher RPM than specified could move more air than intended, resulting in excessive wind noise and vibration.
  4. Motor shaft length – An incorrect shaft length could position the fan blade too close to or too far from the condenser housing, increasing wind noise and reducing airflow efficiency.

Items #3 and #4 can be difficult to determine on a brand-new unit since they're usually identified by comparing replacement parts against the original specifications.

I bought a mini split of this brand last year to heat my basement, it is the 18000btu model and 220v, has been very quiet and works great, ran it all winter and was even getting somewhat warm air from it when it was 0 degrees out

Not but it should be less leak friendly since the connections have fewer points of failure. Pulling vacuum, using a VCRT and using a micron guage are all easy to learn on YouTube. It's well-worth it. The Chinese micron guage I bought on Amazon for $100 works just as well as the $240 American one I have from JB. the $70 Chinese vacuum pump I bought still pulls to 300 micron after installing 8 systems.

just make sure you get an actual Appion VCRT and vacuum rated hose.

Yea even the cheapest mini splits I've seen are quiet enough to have a normal volume conversation over.

This the problem with with these systems and their flair end fittings - they may hold vacuum, but they leak with pressure. The flare end joint fitting pulls together, makes a better seal in this condition, but that's not it's natural state because once the valves are opened the system is always under pressure (even when not running it's going to have around 100 PSI when the weather is nice). So evacuating the system is necessary to remove moisture, but it doesn't do crap for testing. What professional companies do (at least ones who deal with mini-splits a lot) is the use a high pressure nitrogen tank and pressure test the system (overnight is the correct way). Now some people in the hvac community are going to come at me with pitchforks, but I put in a multi zone mini split pioneer system a year back at my folk's place and didn't have access to a nitrogen tank so I used my pancake air compressor. Now I agree this a great way to introduce moisture into the system, but I was sure to drain the thing first and let it filled inside the house. I also let the vacuum pump run for hours and hours because of this.

I know what you're talking about and no, not sure of any other systems which have sealed line sets which are punctured when you connect them to the outside unit. Most units you have to use a flare end fitting tool to make the flare ends. But then you have to evacuate the system as well so you need a vacuum pump. Those Mr Cool systems you're talking about are rather expensive and have also heard that they refuse to honor warranties when someone doesn't use a professional company to install them (kind of defeats the purpose of paying extra for the DIY ones LOL). IDK, there's some ins and outs and don't recommend doing it yourself unless you're somewhat mechanically inclined. You can check out my post above to see what you're going to need but in addition to that you're going to need a torque wrench, crow's feet (the ones at HF aren't bad, but you also need a larger one like 21 or 22mm for the suction fitting on the outside unit in a lot of cases). I believe I got the flare end fitting tool off of the pioneer site but also grabbed these flexible plastic noodle things (I believe they're made out of nylon and color coded for different sizes) which insert into the ends of the soft copper lines so you don't kink them if you have to bend them sharply like where they turn to go down outside or where you turn them into the outside unit. Just keep them clean, don't let them touch the floor or the ground and roll them up and put them back into the package as you pull them out of the lines. The main things you need are a vacuum pump and a gauges set and maybe some adapters of various sizes. The pump I used was just a HF one which I bought years ago (probably paid for itself 10x over at this point with all of the vehicles I've charged AC on. Don't bother with the HF gauges though, they're absolute trash (only work right a few times). You can do better on amazon IMO. Watch loads of videos to see if you could do it.

Anyone have experience with a 110v or 220v model running in an uninsulated room? I have a spare room around 200 sq ft that I would like to have one installed. I will be remodeling the room and add insulation in the future.

A lot of variables in the question, so the answer will range from inadequate to perfectly fine. I am running a similar unit (Senville 20.8 seer 110v) in an enclosed south facing porch in Colorado. The room is all plexiglass windows and uninsulated wood floor. I have made this room my home office since installing the unit in January. When the outside temp is above 40F, there is no problem keeping it warm enough. As the temp drops it gets more and more difficult. I'd say 20F is about the lowest outdoor temp that has been practical. For cooling, it still has not been hot enough outdoors to get all the data, but so far the cooling performance has been very good. The room gets very warm from the sun even when the outdoor temp is modest, and this is no problem because the heat pump is just super efficient when the outside air is not scorching.
